Very dark, with an aftertaste hinting at a Porter. Good job Ninkasi, for the first time in months they have sastisfied me. gregwilsonstl (2615) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - NOV 3, 2012
Dark amber. Clear. Sweet malt. Candy tasting. Caramellized. Thin head. Delicious. ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 29, 2012
A - Pours a fairly dark brown-ruby color with a finger of frothy off white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of roasted malts with hints of cocoa and coffee, a bit of vanilla and nuttiness, some earthy hops, and some lager esters.
T - Starts off with a mix of roasted dark malts with some chocolate coming through and a bit of vanilla. Through the middle, some coffee comes through with some earthy hops and a hint of black licorice. The finish is a mix of roasted dark malts, cocoa, coffee, earthy hops, a touch of vanilla, and some lager esters.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry, sweet, and astringent finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nice smooth dark lager with good over balance and complexity. jimmbo123 (44) - Washington, USA - JUL 28, 2012
Tap @ OBF 2012. A brown pilsner, and the only pilsner I tried that at OBF 2012 that didn’t have that nasty phelonic flavor. Just a smooth roasty beer flavor. Squizzle (306) - Ashland, Oregon, USA - JUL 3, 2013
Dark brown solid lager. Quite tasty malt and little foam from 12 oz bottle into pint glass. Love the name.

Dark brown body, medium off-white head, soapy lacing.Lightly roasty, crackery-bready malts, lightly earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, nice finish. Shink (177) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Out of the bottle from Uptown. Pours a dark brown with a small white head. Smell is slightly malty as well as the taste. Pretty solid lager. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 18, 2014
Pour on tap, reddish brown pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, dark fruits, red berry, hints of dark cocoa, nuts in there, spice as well, some earthy, herbal hops as well. Taste is a mix of herbal, earthy, and grassy hops into some dark fruit, caramel, toffee, nutty notes with a hint of cocoa, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter. Pretty nice for the style. bhensonb (15621) - Woodland, California, USA - JUL 27, 2012
Tap at OBF. Pours towards cola color! Aroma suggests fruit and malt. Med body. Flavor is lightly darkish malt (whatever that means) with a fair amount of noble hop. Lightly spicy hop. It’s not an over the top beer, but it’s extremely flavorful. It just hurts my mind to think this is "International-Style Pilsener". I’d like to think it’s a tasty ale. Brown color? Apparently intentional. Brown is the description in the OBF guide book. poisoneddwarf (2624) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - OCT 29, 2012
12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown but looks red in the light; has a small beige head that falls after a minute or two. Aroma is faint toasted marshmallow, dark fruit. Taste is sweet with hardly any bitterness. It’s roasty, nutty, creamy. Pretty tasty.
