Had off tap at wob cap hill, left over from ninkasi brewery night. Pours a dark brown to black opaque. Aroma of chocolate, alcohol, roasted malt, and anise. Initially sweet malt caramel and chocolate with a creamy smooth mouthfeel. Carbonation is low. Middle and finish have slight dryness. Hop bitterness is more assertive than in a eastern European Baltic porter. Roasted malt and dark malt flavors are pronounced and the finish lingers with dark chocolate, and bitter dryness. Has a ale yeast like spiciness..wondering if it is lager or ale.
On tap @ Provisions Market. Very dark brown, almost black in color with a khaki head. Roasted malt, coffee, and a bit of ash on the nose. Decent chocolate and some earthy hops. Flavor is a touch bitter and ashy. Lots of earth, roast, and cocoa powder/dark chocolate. Just kind of okay. Haslinger (1000) - The World of Beer, Texas, USA - NOV 30, 2013
5 zx flight from a tap takeover at Provisions Market, not much happening with the smell, deep dark color with some nice lacing on the snifter. Not a whole lot of flavor, a bit of malt and some slight alcohol and hops in the finish, nothing great bb (9790) - Alamo, California, USA - AUG 22, 2013
Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Roast and nutty aroma. Chocolate and light earthy flavor with light roasty/toastiness. Medium bodied. Chocolate lingers with light roast/toast/nuttiness. mintzmeet (458) - Seattle, Washington, USA - AUG 8, 2013
