Deep, dark, black-mid brown, slightly cloudy, amber-orange when backlit. thick, warm-tan head that is slight coarse and fades to a ring. Aroma is sweet oat, light caramel, pine, hint of maple and honey, hint of roots/sassafras. Body is medium-light, but with light, delicate carbonation and a somewhat sweet palate that gives the impression of a medium palate. Flavor is leaf and pine, light grain/woodiness. touch of light caramel sweetness (most of the caramel comes through the nose). Moderate earthy bitterness that lingers and defines the aftertaste. Nice porter, just what I wanted (actually, an imperial version of this would have been ideal, this is more of a spring porter, but for the non-porter drinker, I suppose it could be a proper January beer). RIP Sarah Burke, and please support an unregulated internet at all costs! 19Ei8hty (1166) - Washington, USA - JAN 18, 2012
Thin malt body of lightly roasted chocolate and light grain. Dry with some light grass notes and a little pine. Bitter chocolate and some coffee as well. Zeswaft (1774) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 17, 2012
Boringgggg. Decent chocolate aroma but other than that its a flat chalky, bittersweet forgettable beer. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - JAN 17, 2012
Dark roasted grains and light bittersweet chocolate on the nose. Pours dark brown almost black with a tan head. The flavor is that of roasted husky grains, a little coffee, and dark bittersweet chocolate. Dry roasty finish. Somewhat one dimensional but as usual well done. Good drinkability. poisoneddwarf (2564) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - JAN 13, 2012
12 oz bottle bought at Super 1 in Rathdrum, ID. Pours almost opaque black with reddish tints; has a thin beige head that holds for a couple of minutes. Aroma is faintly bready--that’s all I’m getting. Taste is bittersweet--the bitterness is much more prominent than the Big Sky Bobo I rated last night, which was sweeter, but this is Ninkasi, after all. Has a nice roasty flavor. Carbonation is average and the mouthfeel is creamy. Not as good as Bobo, but this is good.

Bottle: dark brown with a tan head. Eggy aroma as well as charcoal. Malty flavors but not much in the flavor. Expected more. Thin finish. Livid (49) - - JAN 10, 2012
22oz. bottle. Pours almost midnight black, tan head that hangs around. Has a nice "dry" roasty aroma, slightly sweet smell. Roasty flavor, slightly dry. Hints of chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied. Mildly bitter at first, but the bitter afterglow gets harsh as it lingers. A passable porter, but probably not something I would pick up again. johnnyoski (445) - Macomb, Michigan, USA - JAN 10, 2012
Bottle. Near black color with a thin tan head. Sweet aromas of chocolate and caramel with some coffee bitterness. Nice roasted taste. Dark chocolate and black licorice flavors with a soft bitter finish. Dry texture with soft carbonation. Nothing spectacular abou this porter but it is easy drinking. anderson01 (356) - Spirit Lake, Idaho, USA - JAN 7, 2012
Black in color with a tan, bubbly head. Caramel and maple syrup are in the aroma. Reeses peanut butter cup is the first thing i taste. Watery texture with an abrupt finish. Medium-bodied with average carbonation. Overall average beer. Beerdrinker79 (2188) - Idaho, USA - JAN 7, 2012
12 oz. bottle- Pours almost black with a nice creamy tan two finger head. The aroma is chocolate malts, it smells like bakers chocolate. The taste is roasted chocolate malt, robust, fairly creamy, mild hops. This does not push any boundaries whatsoever, leaving the term renewale kind of perplexing, but it is good, a straightforward porter.
