Pours dark and inky, with a thin tan head, decent retention. Aromas of oats, chocolate, vanilla, toast, and some earthy hop notes. Full body, creamy, lightly dry, low carbonation. Medium sweet, a hint of tartness, medium lingering bitterness. Well balanced, and an enjoyable mix of malts and adjuncts.

22oz bottle, poured into a shaker. The aroma is oatmeal with vanilla, mild coffee, light bourbon, and some caramel. The vanilla note strengthens late and a mellow, woody anise also appears. The beer is a rich, dark coffee brown hue with a tan, dense foam head that has good retention and lace. The taste is a balanced medium, chocolate bittersweet. The creamy and smooth texture has a foamy carbonation with a medium body containing notes of vanilla, oatmeal, coffee, and a light caramel. The smooth finish has a tone of bittersweet dark chocolate that turns towards more vanilla and cream. Later, the flavor of coffee and mild woody spice strengthens. The sticky aftertaste has mild notes of dark chocolate coffee with a woody spice that’s lingering and turns toward oatmeal and vanilla. Pleasant complexity for a mild stout.

Great look with huge brown head and black body. Soft roasted barley aroma. Wonderful flavour mix of coffee and hops with a chocolate finish. Brilliant flavour.

Bomber to glass. Long day of drinking, but this is really just a roasted barley and artificial vanilla concoction/mess. Not too enjoyable. Everything tastes forces and genetically modified.

Appearance: clear deep brown with two fingers of rocky tan head, good retention and patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: dark chocolate, vanilla, oats, dark roasty malt, liquorice, floral. (7/10) Taste: moderately strong sweet, moderately strong bitter. (7/10) Palate: full body, moderate-low carbonation, mild lingering bitter and warming finish. (4/5) Nice. Very sweet, but reasonably well balanced with a decent bitter and an emphatic but not overwhelming vanilla. It’s a touch hot in the finish, though, and the bitter lingers long after the sweet is a distant memory. Not saying that’s a bad thing - just the facts. I’d have this again, and I’d like to try the non-vanilla version for comparison. (15/20)

Black with thick frothy dark tan head. Sweet aroma with vanilla, coffee, chocolate, and oats. Flavor has roasty bitterness from dark chocolate and coffee beans, but vanilla sweetness also comes through strong. Thick syrupy palate. Excellent dessert beer.

Strong licorice, vanilla and oatmeal scents, strong dark color and very thick. Strong coffee flavors when cold, vanilla comes in more as it warms up

Draft at the pourhouse. Pours black with a medium sized brown head. The aroma is a nice mix of roasted malt and vanilla bean. The taste is heavy vanilla, light roast, cocoa. Liked it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
