Dense black with a tan head, wrecking ball looks great in the glass. Aroma is spectacular, bringing smokey roasted coffee with deep malts and burnt toast. The flavor is what throws this stout off for me being its way too hoppy and lacking in balance. The palate / finish are near perfect, its too bad it was over hopped.

Bottle. Opaque Black in colour. Very Malty; roasty/burnt malts, lots of liquorice, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel/toffee. Fruity; hints of dark fruits. Slightly spicy. Hoppy; earthy hops. Sweet roast malty liquorice and chocolate throughout. Dry roast finish. Much too much liquorice. Unusual but interesting. Decent enough. (2015-04-12)

Bottle - Dark roast and chocolate. Deep jet brown with a light brown head. Dark roast, Chcolate, some minty hops and a very long roasty dark Chcolate finish. Not bad, but nothing particularly special.

Bottle, what Brian thinks to be a 2014 bottle, shared 10/15/16.
Dark mahogany with deep violet tints and a good clarity. Tan head atop is medium-sized and shows moderately strong retention.
Deep, dark, vinous notes emerge slowly. Strong bakers chocolate, prunes, plums, currants and a hint of charred grain. Very dark fruit-heavy Impy, which is fine with me. Alcohol is controlled in the nose and it seems to be very obviously well-attenuated. Almost salty, though its not smokey, with black licorice, light vanilla and more dark fruits peppering the finish.
Long, drawn out dark fruits lend a bitter character to the beer, as low but fairly engaging carbonation and a silky-to-oily texture concentrate the rich acidity and dark chocolate notes. Some light caramel sweetness helps balance, but this thing is very vinous and dry. You dont taste the alcohol but its there, as this thing defintiely creeps up on you. Pepper, currants, char and bitter, dark chocolate linger on the long finish. This is some serious stuff. Very nice sipper.

Dark black, no head, red edges. Sweet aroma with fudge. Flavor, high bitterness, pine-oil, juicy fruit, fudge, espresso. finish is like cake batter. Very sweet.

22 oz bottle thanks to Willrunforbeer. Guessing this is a 2014 vintage with no bottle date coding. Sat in Brian seller at least a year and a half. Pitch black color, lasting off white head. Aroma is lots of raisin, dates, sugarcoated plums. Very weak roast.

Flavor is dark for a dominant, again raisins and date heavy with a bitter chocolate finish. ABV is pretty hidden, body is a little thin. But pretty good.

22oz bottle from trade. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark fruit, a touch of roast. Flavor is a bit drier than I expected, with same dark chocolate, dark fruit, coffee roast. Finish is overextracted coffee bitterness.

650ml bottle from Total Wine in Jensen Beach, shared by bananabi11. Very dark brown pour with a tan head leaving little lacing. Aroma has caramel and chocolate with light roast. Taste adds molasses into the roasty, cocoa, caramel and chocolate, but this never gets sweet. Solid and tasty. 13.8

Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Good raosty nose, with chocolate, and light lactose notes. Near pitch black, with slightly translucent edges and tan lace. Medium-deep roast flavor, some charred wood, dark fruit, good chocolate, licorice, and alcohol. Medium-heavy body. Body is a bit light for the style. Very tasty.
