[Robin Hood Beer Festival, Nottingham Castle, 2015] -
Nobby’s Brewery, Nottinghamshire, T’owd Navigation, 6.1%. Jet black, with a big (!), frothy light beige head. Rather mild aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts. Medium body, hardly watery, mild carbonation. Chocolate, sweet licorice and bitter roasted malts vye for attention at the outset. Middle is drier, but licorice remains, dark chocolate with a hint of vanilla. Finish has the skins of dark berries, chocolate, nuts. Bitter espresso after taste. Intriguing, multi-leveled stout.
