Delightfully dark Strong Ale from years gone by. Rich malt and hop balance with a wonderfully warm finish. Not for the faint hearted.

hughie (3996) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 7, 2010
Cask, gravity, at Bedford Beer Festival ’10. Very dark brown. Ashy leathery aroma. Hints of sweaty car seat and marmite. Mid bitter finish. This isn’t the sort of stuff to be drinking at noon. But it’s good.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2013 Cask conditioned handpump Criterion Leicester. A dark brown coloured beer with a purple hue and a tiny off-white head. The aroma has stewed fruit and booze with licorice notes. Vinuous and fruity in the mouth with prunes. A good warming strong beer. Score 3.6

downender (8660) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2010
Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, Bath 25/02/10. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit and chocolate with a vinous, slightly sour edge. Flavour was similar with more fruit, sourness and a dry finish. Very drinkable, given the ABV.

Cask, Leicester Fest 08. Dark brown with a small beige head. Aromas are earthy and smoky with bitter coffee. Some liquorice. Flavours are rich coffee with some berry fruitiness. Viscous and sticky on the palate. A change to all the golden ales at this festival.

harrisoni (18579) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JAN 4, 2008
Cask handpull at The Wellington, Birmingham. Black with lasting tan head. Good intense roasted stout. Bitter choc, little bit of espresso, lots of roasted malt, some dark fruits. Very full and malty. Nice mouthfeel, bit of choccy velvet.

Fin (10542) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2007
Cask conditioned gravity dispense at Merton Winter Beer Festival 17-02-07. Poured a very dark brown colour with nutty, malty aroma. Warming rich slightly sweet malty taste typical of a winter ale with the alcohol always present, little in the way of bitterness but really nice. I understand they do an oak aged or is it barrel aged version of this which sounds very interesting.
