3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, shared with Parksy & Grippitis @ Aces & Ales in Vegas. Quiet near-black pour, low brown head. Aroma of dark treacle, soy sauce, grass and pine. Very malty palate, lots of brothy dark malts, cocoa, molasses, with a blast of hops coming in very late. More like an imperial porter than a black IPA, but I probably enjoyed it even mor for that.

Opaque dark brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Crispy dry palate. Robust dark malt, dry and with a dose of coffee. The hops are similarly robust. Piney, grassy and with a bitter aftertaste. Very dry finish. Nice flavour but too dry!
Definitely maltier in the aroma than the regular IPA. Looks pretty good. Some hops and astringency, but not quite as good. The sweetness just doesn’t quite mix right with the roasty malts. elihapa (1554) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - JUL 13, 2012
5/29/12 notes: Draft. Light apricot, fruits and orange rind. Flavor is robust, long lasting. Nice creamy chocolate rounds things out. Aggressive and tasty. Good, but perhaps run of the mill for this bold style. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - JAN 4, 2012
Bottle; poured a dark cola/auburn brown with an off white frothy head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, earth, must, roasted malt and a bit of ine. Fairly good aroma. Flavor was a lot more hop driven. Earthy and a bit of pine; some definite roasted backbone in there. A touch of caramel. A good balance of flavors, with an overall ok flavor.

6 Oct 2011, tap at the brewery. dark nut brown, clear. nose is soft. very faint burnt cocoa bean. med body and foamy rather than fizzy. faint toasted coffee w/ a dryed grass bitter hop finish. ok. stout flavors could come out more. Bgarnreiter (53) - Alabama, USA - AUG 5, 2011
Black with light tan head, lacing. Smells of sweet chocolate, malt, light coffee, slight citrus. Tastes sweet and stouty until finish, all dry and hoppy. Really interesting brew, enjoyed it. SmashAsh (14) - California, USA - AUG 1, 2011
This is a very yummy IPA! Slightly smokey and roasty with a great hop finish. JohnnyJ (5569) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 3, 2011
Draft. Medium-dark brown pour, with a light tan head. Roasty, sweet malts, chocolate, piney hops, bitter, moderately dry finish. A nicely done black IPA. Not bad at all considering this style is hit or miss. Hophead22 (2879) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - MAY 29, 2011
Sample. Rating #12. Real good beer, T-Man always comes through. Nice little roasty aroma, slight smoke with a nice hoppy finish. (1745)
