aracauna (3592) - Georgia, USA - JUN 6, 2004
A dark ruby color with a nice head. The aroma is light, but the flavor is almost smoky with a little coffee and a bit of light chocolate. Lightly bubbly mouthfeel.

muzzlehatch (4952) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 13, 2004
6 oz sample at the brewpub. Very light chocolate-malty nose emanating from a creamy, near black, opaque oily surface with a super-creamy lasting head. Nuts, chocolate, and a smidgeon of rosemary in the flavor; could have more heft but otherwise quite good.

kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - APR 17, 2004
deep brown with tan head. Nice lace. Malt flavors with caramel, somewhat nutty. Hint of hops.

JFGrind (2043) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 15, 2004
With a name like 'Grog' and its dark appearance I thought this beer was a Scotch Ale. Turned out to be an average brown ale with medium body, carmel undertones and a highly bitter aftertaste.

GABF '03, brown with an off-white head.Sweet, nutty and fruity. For some reason I thought this was going to be some sort of gruit ale.

MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - JUL 28, 2003
Dark caramel brown. Nose is smoky and earthy. Caramel at start, ends smoky. Finishes overly smoky, slightly sweet finish. A bit overly thin.

dolemike1 (1288) - Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 28, 2003
Dark tannish brown with a nice tan head. Sweet, nutty, caramel flavors. Quite a nice session ale. Decent hoppy finish, but not enough to overpower the malts. Quite enjoyable and drinkable.

2.5
argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 27, 2003
(SCBE2003): Clear chestnut with medium beige head. Aroma is meidum sweet caramel, slightly earthy. Taste is light sweet, caramel, earthy, with lightly earthy bitter finish. Watery medium body.

2.8
Nuffield (4169) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUN 10, 2003
An average brown ale. Its head is its real redeeming feature, but I thought this lacked a bit on the malt backbone for a beer in this style. (on tap, Pennsylvania Microbrewers Fest 2003)

4.9
ravidesai (978) - Bombay, INDIA - JUN 8, 2003
UPDATED: AUG 2, 2003 great session ale. dark malty stuff that is pleasantly sweet, yet has enough counterbalancing hops to give a sharp finish. creamy dense palate looks great as well, dark brown with a big head that left ample lace.
