This is the second release of Special Holiday Ale, which was first brewed in San Diego in 2008. Each brew is following the same recipe, including Michigan chestnuts, white sage from southern California and Norwegian juniper berries, but differences in brewing and aging practices produce different beers. Cheers to being different! Skål!

Bottle 500ml. @ home.

[ Trade by yngwie ]. Clear dark red brown color with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, fruity - berry, pumpkin - cinnamon - nutmeg, maybe ginger also, light roastead, nutty notes. Flavor is light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, anis - juniper, berries, spicy, sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily - syrupy and sticky, carbonation is soft. Not my liking to sweet and strange spicy .. [20100531]

Draft. A black beer with a brown shine - seemingly a bit murky with a thin tan head. The aroma has strong notes of ginger and cardemomme as well as medium notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor has strong notes of spices - ginger and cardemomme, combined with medium notes of malt and chocolate, leading to a dry spicy finish.

Bottled at Stocholm Beer Festival. Cloudy amber, small creamy head. Aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg. Sweet and full bodied, piney with notes of almond. Dried out by hops that also give marked bitterness.

Murky brown - amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is silky smooth and and slightly viscous. Rich creamy malts. Strong but cooling smooth cinnamon. Trace of dark fruits. Smooth finish. It’s a notably mellifluous spice beer but a little one dimensional.

Bottle courtesy of tarheels86 - thank you sir! Dark maroon color with a thin off white head that settles quickly to leave scant lacing. Aroma of pumpernickel and rye breads. Taste starts as a corned beef on rye and progresses to birdseed. But in a good way. Interesting, and slightly experimental, but not extreme.
