Pours murky black with a modest head, I’d prefer more of it on top though. Sweet barley on the nose (or perhaps that’s rye), oiliness, hints of licorice. Flavour is strong meaty rye with a spicy twang on the back end, some burning from the alcohol. Dry finish. Meaty and heavy. Pretty good.

Brown - black color, no sun shines trough, with a moderate brown head, which vanishes fast. Caramel, toffee, malt, chocolate, amazingly enough floral hops are present. Smell points in a more bready direction. Malt, bready, later on getting sweeter, toffee, but also bitter coffee, tobacco. Hops still play an important role, as they push the taste in a refreshing, bitter direction with suble floral notes. Very smooth mouthfeel, warming. Interesting beer, as it as both sweet and bitter components, melting together in a very balanced way, resulting in a complex body. Carbonation adds a metallic hint to the bitter, coffee aftertaste, throughout refreshing. Caramel and toffee in the beginning, then coffee and hops, which turn the beer bitter in an enjoyable way.

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, beige head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate, liquorice, molasses, pumpernickel. Flavour is sweet, malty, roasted malts, rye, chocolate, liquorice, light spicy, light bitter, bittersweet finish. Medium to full-bodied. Nice, but a bit too much on the sweet side, and lacks a bit of depth IMO.

What style is this?? Dark chocolate brown with a thick film floating on top. Aroma is smelless..... faint amounts of all things that have specific smells. It has a taste!! Ash, bitter chocolate, mighte be rye hard to tell. Taste good is all I know. A sweetness lingers in the background. Is that banana i detect?? Good brew.

Bottle. Dark viscous pour, minimal tan head that coats the sides of the glass leaving behind resinous legs. Aroma, coffee, strong roast, hops, very enticing and aromatic. Taste, sweet up front, a bit nutty, lots of roast and coffee like character, with a semi bitter aftertaste. Really enjoyed this!

Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of nice roasted dark malts, dark chocolate, caramel, roasted coffee, some notes of grassy hops in the background and some sweet liquorice. Quite textbook smelling! Taste of roasted coffee (some fruity espresso notes), roasted dark malts, toffee, some hoppy notes, liquorice and with a fairly smooth and suitable body. Carries alcohol very well. Textbook clean porter!
