Clear black body, reddish hue, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, soy sauce, liquorice, coffee, hops and rough cacao. Sweetish flavour, rye, quite bitter and roasted malts. Quite creamy, full body, lasting bitter finish, hops and bitter coffee.
Another great beer by Nøgne Ø.

Bottled. Pours deep brown with a large , beige head, that leaves a good lacing on the glass. Nose of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and licorice. Sweet flavor with a more dry and bitter. Full bodied, creamy texture and soft CO2. An excellent brew. ★★★★

Sampled @ Hanne på Høyden. This one pours a dark dark cola-brown body with a small quickly sidesticking tan head. On the aroma it’s really lovely roasted and sweet with dark dried fruits, dark chocolate, sticky dark caramel and hints of some alcohol. Quite lovely. It has that nice thick and almost viscous, creamy texture with a average, small bubbled carbonation level. In flavor it’s not unexpectedly, dark, bitter and roasted. I get some clear dark Belgian chocolate, with tons of roasted malts. It feels really round and delicious in the flavors this. It also has a extreme-lasting warming roasted chocolate aftertaste that’s literally making me taste the beer for a very long time after I’ve swallowed it. They’ve done it again! 11.04.2012

500ml bottle from the lcbo. Black pour, large brown head. Big roast, pine resin hops, soft spice from the rye, and hints of bitter cocoa. Silky mouth feel, soft carb. Finish is medium bitter, with strong licorice notes, anise, fennel and more pine. Sweetness fades and pine rounds everything out, with more roast.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of licorice, chocolate, light coffee, bread, light pepper and dried fruit. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of licorice, chocolate, light coffee and bread. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really nice.

Bottle. Pours a near black color with a smallish light brown head. I get some of the grains in the nose, but some roasting and chocolate really is forward in the nose. Taste is quite similar, with a hint of sweetness up front but a tad bit of bitterness on the back end. Really smooth and easy drink. I like it muchly.

0,5L bottle. Black pour, thin dark brown foam. Aroma of licorice, charred malts, Irish Coffee, dark chocolate, unsweetened cocoa. Heavy boozy nose. Very heavy bodied, oily texture. Smooth mouthfeel, creamy, soft dryness. Tastes of chocolate, some sweet (not salty) soy sauce, roast, light char, a little rye spice, ash. Goes down like a slow made toffee with cream. Very soft. Perfect balance, so residual\cloying sweetness. ABV is hidden, although it is throughout the aroma. Finishes with a nutty licorice character with some pine hops in the end. Damn, how do these guys do it?? (3631)

Bottle @ Nieuwjaarsborrel 2014, courtesy of jmgreenuk. Pours a very dark brown beer with a small brown head on top. Aroma is grainy, rye and has some licorice. Flavor is very sweet with a big grainy base in it. The sweetness is backed up by a big bitter flavor in the back. Balance is very good in this beer, yet it’s missing a few components to be a great beer. Still quite good.
