On tap. Opaque black with a small, light brown head. Pruney aroma with only a subtle whiff of roast. Full and rich body, fairly intense, roast and again prune juice, dark and bitter chocolate accents. Ends bitter from both malts and hops. Very chewy - kinda grew on me. 180412

Tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration, Day Two. Pours black with a creamy, beige head. Has quite a fruity nose, some ripe grapes and berries, moderate roast. Medium to big sweet flavor with plenty of chocolaty dark malts, burnt wood and a bit of whisky-like hard alcohol. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with restrained cocoa, some dark, dried fruits, bitter cocoa. It’s a nice beer and well-rounded, but just doesn’t have anything to push it into ’great’ territory.

Koelschtrinker (21828) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - FEB 23, 2014
Rund malziger Antrunk, intensiv mit leichter Süße und gänzlich ohne Alkoholnoten. Schokoladig, getreidig, zum Ende passend aber intensiv trocken. Mir zu dumpf, sonst gut! 11/12/11/11//11

Draught at Danske Ølentusiasters Ølfestival 2012, Copenhagen
Black color, with brown creamy head. Moderate aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, ass. Strong flavor of dark chocolate, but also a bit too much roasted malt, liquorice; salty finish; good body strength, and the mouthfeel is quite round thanks to some residual sweetness.
Good, not impressive.

Bottle split at Bespin, thanks to Danny Boyo, 08/12/16.
Black with a decent tan head.
Nose is earthy, molasses, herbal notes, dark chocolate dusting, chocolate biscuit.
Taste comprises chocolate chop cookies, toffee, earthy, shades of fruit loaf, black peppery spice.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Decent enough porter ... ABV kept in check, drinks fairly easy if perhaps lacking a little depth ABV considered.

mcberko (19177) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 8, 2012
500mL bottle, pours a very dark brown / black with a medium tan head. Aroma of cocoa powder, oats, rye and light roasted - the rye and cocoa are most prominent. Flavour brings out the rye above anything, with secondary notes of baker’s chocolate, some coffee and medium roasted malt. Full-bodied, very soft palate, with very harsh rye on the finish. Could be confused for a harsh black IPA, though the rye is in place of the hops. Quite solid, though harsh.
