Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor’s note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery usually says it’s brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was supposedly a glitch. In Europe it’s sold as an IIPA. But to save the admin crew some time dealing with user feedback, it’s listed as a Barley Wine.

Perfect way to celebrate the 100th batch. Drinks like a cross between a potent IPA and a barley wine. Malt in the front, but profound bitterness in finish, that lingers long and stays sticky toffee sweet to balance the hops. Full mouthfeel, and very upfront with the warming alcohol. I love this brewery, if only the bottles were cheaper and around all the time at the LCBO.

Hazy, dark brown colour with some creamy, tan lacing. Slightly hoppy aroma with some pine, plenty of malts, caramel. Taste is full, lots of malts here as well with a bit of hoppy bitterness. Finish has a little bit of alcohol burn. Full and rich body, slick and oily mouthfeel, lowish on the carbonation. Very nice beer with rich flavours.

50 cl bottle. Dirty copper (heh) / brown beer with a relatively small beige head. Aromas are very bold. Citrus with peach and pineapple, caramel, malt, generally ripe fruit, alcohol, a bit of menthol. Thick fruity, very malty and hoppy taste, everything very aggressively at first, lots of caramel. Full body, full of flavors, but it feels a little muted. I can see why it’s been classified as a BW instead of IIPA. Quite impressive from a technical point of view how they’ve packed all of this into one beer, but from a sensory POV, I could do with "less is more".

Nesten svart med noen røde nyanser. Kompakt, hvitt skum. Røde bær, toffee, nøtter og litt syltetøy. Smakene følger duften med et snev av kaffe og sjokolade på slutten. Fin bitterhet og herlig munnfølelse.

Bottle from Taniguchi. Well priced in Japan for a 500ml bottle. Served in my teku glass it has a huge fruity boozy aroma: raisins and plums with some heat. Full bodied and smooth with a fruity and yet bitter hoppiness but also quite a bit of sweetness. Much less boozy than I feared with a nice depth of flavor and balance. I can see why this is in the Top 50.

50cl bottle at home. Hazy dark brown with a small slightly off-white head. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Great bitterness with nice subtle sweet tones. Caramel, pine, malts, raisin, ripe fruits and subtle chocolate. Very good barley wine.

Mmm ... somewhere between a double IPA and a barley wine. Nice place to get lost. Quite sweet and subtly boozy with chocolate and caramel from the malt against sweet then bitter pine and citrus notes from the hops. Great batch.

Grande american Barley wine. Corpo pieno, aroma e gusto con sentori luppolati, caramellati e un po’ liquorosi. Ne ho assaggiati di migliori, ma questa spicca per il suo equilibrio e "leggerezza", almeno contando che sono sempre 10º!
