COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Andhrimnir is the chef of the Æsir and einherjat in Norse Mythology. Every day in Valhalla, he slaughters the beast Sæhrímnir and cooks it in Eldhrimnir, his cauldron. It is also the winner of Norwegian national championship for homebrewers. We at Nøgne Ø want to make this great barley wine available commercially, so beer drinkers will have an opportunity to experience the best Norwegian homebrew. Though made in Nøgne Ø brewery, this beer was brewed by its creator, Gahr Smith-Gahrsen. Ingredients: Grimstad water, malted barley, hops, yeast. 65 IBU.

Sigmund (7496) - Tau, NORWAY - NOV 23, 2009
500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch #435, ABV 10%. Deep brown colour, slightly hazy, big beige head. Pleasant aroma of brown malts, notes of rum-raisin and fortified wine, hints of spices and oak. The flavour has loads of malty sweetness and alcohol, notes of dark dried fruits and oak, hints of spices (esp. anise) and liquorice. There is a firm hoppy bitterness in the finish. Powerful beer, a bit "raw in the edges", will probably benefit from a year or two (perhaps more) in the cellar.

Small offwhite head. Deep brownish red body. Nutty earthy strawberry aroma with roasted almonds and toffee notes. Sweet-dry alcoholic dusty roasty strawberry taste with fruity nutty caramel notes. Fullish body. Rounded, warm mouthfeel. Dry roasty dusty nutty malty aftertaste with earthy syrupy roasted almonds notes. Complex and harmonic, even though it’s still strictly speaking quite green. Will rerate, because this is bound to improve with age. (0.35l draft, Olympen, Oslo.)

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2009 Pours murky orange with no head. Aroma of sherry (even glühwein) ginger and cardamom, ginger. Taste is sweet alcoholic and bitter. Syrupy texture. Full bodied. (Tap @ Cardinal 29.12.2009) (Original rating 3.1 Total score) [email protected] stand @Ølmessen 2009,Nærbø. Hazy golden liquid with a creamy, light brown head that lasts. Aromas are all surprisingly mild, Caramel, Alcohol, Prune/Plum and Apple. In the mouth it starts off heavily sweet and lightly acidic. The heavy sweetness lingers into a long finish with a metallic hint. Obviously full bodied, the sweetness is a bit too dominant for my taste. Nice to have tried though.

Bottle @ Olbutikken, Copenhagen. After a few boring beers from the brewery this beer made me remember why I use to love Nogne O so much a few years back. Pours unclear brown with a creamy head and lacing. Nose and taste is sweet and vinous. Dark fruits, a bit of alcohol and chewy malts. Full bodied. A bit of warmth. Good drinkability. Nice

Bottled. Dark reddish brown coloured. Unclear. Beautiful light brown dense head. Aroma of liqourice, berries, raisin and dried fruits. Is a bit subdued. Flavour of raisin, sweetness, prunes, liwourice, berries, light herbs and spices. Medium to full bodied. Quite dry. Ends on a sweet and fruity note. Has a light bitter touch and ABV warm the lips gently.

350ml draught, my second of three big beers at Olympen where the ale was served at the very right drinking temperature. Brown-reddish body with a slight haze. More or less naked on the surface. Smell of sweet prunes and raisin. Dried apricots in flavour added by plums and prunes and underlying malts. Lingering bittersweet finish. Modest spicy alcoholic heating. Full bodied, but still refreshing and quite easy to drink. Rather satisfactory with the ox ribs (Oslo, 13.10.2009).
