Andhrimnir is the chef of the Æsir and einherjat in Norse Mythology. Every day in Valhalla, he slaughters the beast Sæhrímnir and cooks it in Eldhrimnir, his cauldron. It is also the winner of Norwegian national championship for homebrewers. We at Nøgne Ø want to make this great barley wine available commercially, so beer drinkers will have an opportunity to experience the best Norwegian homebrew. Though made in Nøgne Ø brewery, this beer was brewed by its creator, Gahr Smith-Gahrsen. Ingredients: Grimstad water, malted barley, hops, yeast. 65 IBU.

Copper brown, thin beige head, light lacing. Aroma of alcohol, quite sweet, malty, molasses, brown sugar. Flavour of alcohol, burnt sugar, quite sweet, fruity.
Alcoholic mouthfeel, medium body, mild carbonation. Finishes long, boozy, sweet.

Not bad, a bit warming though.

650ml bottle purchased at Knightly Spirits in Orlando, Florida.
Opened in July 2010.
Didn’t record bottle information.

500 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 6/18/2009. Pours extremely cloudy reddish brown color with a small 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, toffee, caramel, toast, biscuit, cocoa, earth, herbal, pine, molasses, and honey. Very nice and well balanced malty aromas with good complexity. Taste of caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, pear, apple, herbal, floral, earth, toffee, chocolate, toast, biscuit, pine, honey, and light spiciness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, dark fruit, apple, toast, biscuit, chocolate, honey, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of flavors with good complexity, and no cloying sweetness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed well after the finish. Overall this is a very excellent barleywine. Great flavor balance and complexity; and quite smooth to sip on as well. Highly enjoyable stuff.

Backlog nov/dec 2010. On bottle from Vinmonopolet. Dark color, some foam. Dried fruit aromas & resembles those of strong wine. Full body & high complexity. Sweet and some unbalance. Ok, but not my preferred style

Pigs Ear! Bottle thanks to Rune! Cheers my tall Norwegian friend! Cloudy brown beer. Light malty nose. Light light fluffy palate. Rich but light malt. Light Port WIne and a little brandy. Finishes light and dry.

Bottle shared by Mike12da. Estery nose, apple, pear, funk. Cloudy brown with lace. Fruity, sweet flavor, with vanilla. Light and clean, not all that interesting really, though it did open up a bit as time passed. Decent.

Hazy dark brown colour with a beige head. Rich sweet nose with some alcohol. Very sweet flavour, with a lot of fruity notes and some alcohol. [Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Halden, Norway]

Let me preface my review with this statement--I think my bottle was messed up, or at least I hope so. Pours hazy ruby brown with...drumroll please....ABSOLUTELY NO HEAD!! I mean this beer was absolutely flat. Aroma is sweet barley and caramel, very one dimensional. Taste is same but waaaay too sweet. Body is medium, dense, absolutely no carbonation, cloying finish. Overall, this was the worst beer experience I’ve had in a while. What the F Nogne?

500 mL bottle from State Line Liquors and shared at the 17th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 1/28/12. Batch 435 best by 180614. Pours a hazy amber color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of big toffee malts, citrus and brown sugar. The taste is brown sugar, caramel, anise, raisin and bitter hops. Full bodied, chewy, lingering bitterness. Nice.
