Wonderful example of a Doppelbock. Very malty, sweet, balanced, flavourful. Yummy.
12/30/2011 9:52:40 AM Bottle with Trond G. in Oslo. Dark brown body with medium head. Sweet and smoky nose. Taste of malts, caramel and chocolate. Quite strong ABV and really nice. Thanks Trond! ngeaney (97) - SWEDEN - AUG 30, 2015
Dark brown to reddish brown appearance and a small beige head. Aroma was very impressive, lots of caramel, malt, chocolate and sweetness and on the palette it was quite sweet and dare I say a little spicy.
Malty sweetness, quite a thick chewy beer with some dark fruits and chocolate flavours. Gets a bit boozy after a while and all the sugar residue makes the alcohol more intense. nuplastikk (6508) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 28, 2014
Tap at Ei8ht Ball. Smoky burnt resin aroma. Caramel, bocky yeast. Kind of odd, not really nailing the style. Has that eastern European caramel thing going on. Unique, but not exactly a World Class product. VastActiv (7734) - Oulu/Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 11, 2014
Tap at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Originally rated 16122011. Colour is brown with very small head. Aromas and flavours: Sweetness, grain and malts. b3shine (9253) - Indiana, USA - DEC 13, 2013
Draft to taster (shared by phaleslu). Looks good; a semi-transparent cola with thin light beige lacing. Smells and tastes sweet and malty with a bit of roast and bitterness. Average on the palate. Solid beer.

Draft in a sampler at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a deep brown, cloudy, with no head, just a tiny ring around the edge. The aroma has smoky, roasty malts, dried pork, earth, and nuts. Flavor of smoked malts, peat, soy, chocolate, burnt toast, and flat cola. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a mouthfeel that’s simultaneously flat and rich. Maybe the carbonation was off, but this one didn’t do a ton for me. Chudwick (3423) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - NOV 27, 2013
Draft - pours dark brown. Nose is chocolate, smoke, red apple and wood. Lots of wood and almost peat. Big body. So much better than the dragon lady I had last night. NikkTwist (3401) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 2, 2013
Draft at Farmers Cabinet. Opaque black pour - clear dark ruby under bright light. Slight foam. Very rich rotted veg with a peppery edge. Prunes. Figs. Cherry pits. Celery hearts. Dark fruity black. Bitter finish. Good body. Great stuff. sebletitje (10475) - Enghien, BELGIUM - MAR 24, 2013
Draft @ Moeder Lambic.
Cunningham (8525) - Halden, NORWAY - MAR 21, 2013
Appearance: Black color with a small tan head. Some lacing.
Aroma: Fruity and dark malty.
Palate: Medium plus body. A bit sweet and a mild bitterness. Soft carbonation. Oily texture.
Taste: Balanced fine berry fruity sweetness on a solid dark malt background. A hoppy tail showed up after a while. I had not been drinking anything else. So some hops definitely showed up.
Overall impression: Doppelbock is a beer style I normally avoid. This was a nice example of the opposite. Lovely beer.
Personal stats: On tap at Crowbar & Bryggeri in Oslo, Norway.
