Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Well I just can’t wait for the Easter ("Påske") holiday with a beer like this hanging around, so I’ll rate this now and focus on the pure enjoyment with the holiday actually comes around. :-) Pours a beautiful, slightly hazy solemn deep golden-amber body with a large, bubbly white head. Nice. Aroma is Belgian ale yeast (saison-like tones, almost), syrupy candy sugar-like sweetness, pineapple, flowers and subtle hints of pepper, citrus and grass in the back. Taste is lovely spicy floral sweet tones, with base pale malts blending in with dark syrupy caramel notes. Some mild citric hints in the aftertaste, most likely on account of the wheat. The hops don’t come out much, other than in the highly balancing of the sweetness, which is beckoning (for a sweet tooth-kinda guy like me, at least) without ever feeling overpowering. Some mild grassy touches in the back, though. Style-wise, this is like a Belgian blonde gone freestyling with the dunkel/bock tradition as well as dipping into the American amber ale landscape. Fascinating. Smooth mouthfeel, complex and yet utterly drinkable - this is the best beer I’ve had from Nøgne Ø in quite a while! :-) A shame the availability is so low for this super-nice creation, let’s hope they have time and space to make this a regular spring seasonal.

A nice colour, reddish brown beer with a small bubbled and blond head. Aroma is fresh, fruits, nicely earthy sourness, dry herbs and spicyness, even some liquirice. Taste is slightly fruitfull and refreshning, overally quite dry, herbal bitterness, nice sourness, even some green apples. Medium- bodied, nice carbonation, quite light to drink, but that fitts nicely into dry and fresh impression. Pleasant, enoughly challenging, sour and fruitfull beer; very interesting brew, even some Orval -nuancees.

0.5l bottle. Oh, is it this deep amber? I’ve always thought this would be a bright clear light one, but the pour on this one is actually both blurry, warm and deep glowing-amber. It also has a small bubbly sidesticking and creamy beige head. The aroma has subtle fruity tones, some sweet caramel, dark malts, and there is almost a hint of ashy smoke here as well. Strange that last part, but I quite like this! Really nice flavors here, and my god it’s so light drinkable. A really nice smooth and creamy texture with a soft carbonation level. Lots of that same fruity tones found in the aroma, and it has nice tones of sweet caramel. Really well balanced with a gentle bitterness all the way, and it ends in a light almost herbal and grassy-bitter well balanced finish. This was really nice! 10.03.2012

Samea, tumman oranssinen ja muodostaa valkoisen vaahdon. Tuoksu on sitruksinen, vehnäinen ja mausteinen. Maultaan olut on mausteinen, hedelmäinen ja hieman kuivan katkera. Myös hieman paahtunut. Keskihiilihappoinen tai ehkä jopa vähän sen yli. Runko on keskipaksu. Hyvä olut taas norjalaisilta

On tap at Brasserie 4:20. Clear burnt orate pour with a fluffy off white head. Aromas of apricots and nectarines. Crisp and clean with good carbonation and a nice mouthfeel. Good balance with light white fruit (nectarines and apricots) and Belgian yeast notes. I thought this was an IPA at first. A real nice Belgian Ale without the traditional spice and dark fruit notes.

500 ml bottle. Batch #616, brewed on 04.05.2011, BBE 04.05.2014.

Very aggressive bottle when opened, I must say. Pours a beautiful murky and hazy orange amber colour with a small foamy head, which collapses quickly. Aroma of sweet ripe banana, orange, wheat, yeast and some strong sweet toffee. Flavour of sweet malts and wheat, banana, yeast, floral hops, herbal spiciness and sweet toffee again. Medium bodied, quite foamy and thick mouthfeel and decent carbonation. Finishes bitter, fruity and sweet with some yeast. Some similarities with a Weizenbock. Tasty stuff.
