500 ml bottle. Very dark brown. Seemingly clear. Small off-white head. Smokey aroma with german sausages and cow dung. Soft malty texture. Nice rounded malt flavours with a nice smokey note. Really well balanced, and a perfect example of a great rauchbier. Marsiblursi (3076) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 6, 2012
(Bottle) pours dark brown with red hints. Sand colored head. The aroma holds smoke, dry caramel, bread, cookies, herbs, earth and alcohol. Maybe a whisper of dried raisins and tart chocolate. The flavour is light sweet, light bitter and tiny acidic. Smoke, bread, light caramel, earth, herbs, grass and alcohol. The mouthfeel is clean, light watery and tiny tart with a light carbonation. Watery smoke and resinous wood on the finish. Light to medium bodied. OleR (4804) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 3, 2012
Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Vika. Dense tiny-bubbled brownish-blond head. Body is deep mahogny brown with good clarity. Initial aroma of sourish brown bread and faint cheese. Then a pleasant meaty smokiness take over. Taste is balanced sweet/dry malty. Meaty and woody smoke character. Discreetly hopped. Faint brown suger tones. Easy on the palate, smooth and silky. Sweet-accented rounded finish. Good stuff. ration (2211) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 3, 2012

On tap at Beer Revolution. Pours a dark brown small white head settles to a ring and leaves very little lacing on the glass. The aroma is smoke, a bit of roast, and a little bit of bacon. Initial taste has a bit of sweetness with some smoky and woody flavors. The finish has a bit of ash and is quite drying. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Not but, but I’ve certainly had better smoked beers. SirLimpsalot (4159) - SWEDEN - JAN 30, 2012
Rökig doft, små toner av skinka, liten sälta men i det store och hela ganska tunn. harrisoni (18405) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JAN 29, 2012
Bottle from The Bottle Shop. Drunk on train from Walmer to Ashford after visiting Plough at Ripple. Always travel well prepared. Very deep brown colour with lasting dark beige head. Smoked game aroma. Not sausage or bacon but way gamier in the meat smoke stakes here. Touch of peaty whisky smoke. Rich in the mouth. Smooth too. Rich smokey and mysterious. Some molasses and coal tar. Like licking a bikers leather jacket thats been made of venison hide. Rather stunning if I am being honest. Almost as stunning as view over Dover coming in by train. It has great finesse for such a beer. Finish has more of the smoke some toffee and some ashtray smokiness. Bit like a bikers pub at the end of the night. Yes leather and ashtray and smoked venison. A beer I wont forget in a hurry. Entertaining. Smooth slightly sweet toffee malt in mouth esp0r (2866) - NORWAY - JAN 29, 2012
Bottle shared at my friend Ed’s house
Dark dark brown with red tints, big tanned head. Smells of smoke, fireplace and roasted malts. Taste is quite malty, good sweetness and alot of smoke of course, but it’s not as powerful as the title might indicate. Some oily feel, but not any near perfect, nice quite bitter finish.
The story behind all this is of course that this is not a NØ made beer but a winner in the home brew competition, and there is no doubt that NØ’s own smoke beer, Sunturnbrew, is much better
