Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with fairly little head. Smokiness just leaps off the nose of this, like you’re drinking a fire. Very easy drink, assuming you like smoke. LoFi (1718) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 9, 2012

From a bottle at GBF 2012. Clear chestnut, medium beige head. Choking smokey bon fire aroma, with some nutty and caramelly maltiness trying to get their voices heard. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Semi sweet, medium bitterness. italarican (1550) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 22, 2012
On tap at the farewell to NY after party at Proletariat. Pours dark brown with a ruby tinge. Aroma is meaty and slightly catty. Bacon notes with loads of munich malt. Minimal hops presence. Caramel and meat in the finish.

Bottle at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration Tune-Up, London. Pours lightly hazy red-brown with a creamy, tan foam head. Mild smoke in the nose with some fruity notes as well. Medium sweet flavor with understated smoke, rocks, light coal, light caramel. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Decent smoke comes through in the finish with some dark chocolate, mild caramel. Very decent smoked beer. Somewhat understated, but I suppose that ain’t such a bad thing when it comes to smoked beers. johndoughty (5449) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - JUL 20, 2012
Bottle. Black with a small head. Slightly smoked but not to an overpowering extent.Left quite a lot of sediment.Easy to drink. Bathory (458) - Kverneland, NORWAY - JUL 17, 2012
Aroma of smoke, coal, roasted malts and some leather. Palate is medium with a slick palate. Very smokey taste, but a nice balance also. A very Nice beer from Nøgne Ø. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUL 6, 2012
Good brew from Nogne. Deep reddish brown pour with a medium filmy head. Nose is nice and Bamber-y in just the way I was hoping for. Very smooth body, almost heavy enough to pass for a porter. Taste is a bit different than the nose, with slight more char and even a touch of juniper perhaps? Like one of those traditional ale experiments these and other Scandinavian brewers put out in a sense. But it certainly tilts more towards a traditional rauch and, while it won’t displace Aecht, it was better than average. phaleslu (10263) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 4, 2012
500 ml bottle from The Wine and Cheese Place. Pours a deep, dark, opaque brown with a finger of beige head that leaves some lace. Aroma of smoked malts, tobacco, roast, and powdery chocolate. The flavor is smokier, but still fairly mild and has some dark fruits. Medium-bodied, with soft carbonation and a smoky, roasty mouthfeel. Not a bad smoked ale.
