3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Brewdog Camden. Pours a clear amber red colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet and boozy with only a hint of tired flowery hops. Raisin and caramel. Taste is similar: overly malty and boozy with caramel and toffee. Mild flowery hops, but the star ghere is booze. Medium to thick body with soft carbonation. Overall, go for it only if you enjoy boozy beers, and don’t expect hops fireworks in this.

Nice, although more restrained nose than I expected. Light hop, fruity, caramel and floral scent. Pours opaque dark copper with a small white head. Hops, fruit, molasses, malt and oak on the palate. Delicious!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wow strong flavour back to front. Extremely hoppy and sweet. Very slight bitterness on finish. Sweet ripe fruits like apricots or a rich alcoholic fruit punch. Pleasant poor and nice white head that laces the glass superbly.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 13/20
Wood and caramel, vague hoppiness that I can’t quite recognize. At any rate, it is malty and aged much more like a barleywine. Murky brown, minimal head. Full body, but not too weighty. Alcohol is quite noticeable. Wood and maole syrup offset by the same vague hoppiness. Whikey and fudge notes also present. Definitely malt forward and chewy with hops overwhelmed by the sweet malt. A bit cloying, but just a bit. Drinks like it could be an old bottle, but alas there is no date on the bottle.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle: pours opaque molasses orange, effectively no head. Nose is prunes, molasses, dank basement aromas, rotten fruits, caramel malts. The palate is syrupy, with esters, sweet malts, molasses, honey, butterscotch , fermented fruit, alcohol booze. Too sweet and unbalanced.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Looks milky and with hardly any head. The overall look is pretty close to a Finnish Sahti. The palate is very nice, thick and creamy. The taste is very bitter but well balanced. The finish is very long, with a nice lasting bitterness. But overall it’s a bit disappointing because the taste remains pretty much the same (except for variation in intensity) from start to finish.

Recent bottle from Maria’s in Chicago. Sales people said it must be a recent delivery, and given that it would and should disappear from the shelves, I must believe. That contradicts the ultimate tasting, which yielded a hoppy American barleywine/American strong. Still enjoyable! With a good citrus orange and grapefruit taste, and minty piney hops in the finish. Good drinkability, a little boozy.
