Bottle. I was pretty pleased to find a bottle of this as the standard Nogne Imperial is one of my first and favourites. Black with a tan head. Familiar imperial aroma with an outside edge of Cognac. Flavour has the usual chocolatey goodness with a richness verging on Soy. There’s an additional woody element which offers some vanilla and more importantly some top shelf cognac flavours. Sweetness and bitterness are well balanced. This was delicious.
Bottled. Small sample. Old note. The aroma has roast, licorice, cognac. Black coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is moderate bitter with roast, coffee, licorice and cognac. Decent body. Nice. rouhlas (3665) - GREECE - DEC 20, 2016

Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Full silky oily body with soft carbonation. fiulijn (20993) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 27, 2016
Bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, CopenhagenViper666 (5930) - Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 20, 2016
Black color, pouring oily, with no head. Mild aroma of roasted malt and spirit. Full bodied; the mouthfeel is quite oily; strong flavor of roasted malt, moderately sweet, some chocolate, with a earthy (soil) and tobacco touch, some liquorice, and alcohol punch; some oxidisation.
Chaotic, boozy, inexpressive.

Rating #1315 - Black as a Norwegian Christmas. Aroma is heavy roast malt, espresso, molasses. eau de vie.Taste is heavy on roast malt and coffee flavours, lots of burnt sugar, toffee, blackstrap molasses. Decent cognac profile that doesn’t take over. Phenomenal.

Bottle from Palme, thanks! Licorice-laden maltiness with prominent berry notes, quite strong cognac notes, very well integrated, as if emerging from the pumpernikel. Subtle almond and vanilla, while the roast, chocolate and coffee are less emphasized than in the non-BA version. Thick, sweet and oily. The barrel ageing turned the beer into something different, at the cost of some of the flavour depth. Still a great beer. ngeaney (97) - SWEDEN - AUG 30, 2015
Opaque black body with a quite generous mocha brown head where the aroma was of dark chocolate, coffee, burnt sugar and boozy. Dried dark fruits, some vanilla, liquorice and molasses.
Bitter dark chocolate, deep roasted coffee beans, some soya sauce more alcohol and some sweetness. Palette is both thick and smooth with very low carbonation, body is full-bodied. Very long after-taste with some wood and smokiness, like smoked sausage and lots of dark plums in the finish. Christian (13759) - Odense, DENMARK - JUL 17, 2015
