Rating #1315 - Black as a Norwegian Christmas. Aroma is heavy roast malt, espresso, molasses. eau de vie.Taste is heavy on roast malt and coffee flavours, lots of burnt sugar, toffee, blackstrap molasses. Decent cognac profile that doesn’t take over. Phenomenal. Alexus (242) - Stavanger, NORWAY - MAR 13, 2012
Shared bottle thanks to Odland! Much like the Imp. Stout from Nøgne Ø. Only this is better. Nice flavors from the cognac barrels gives a nice new depth to the imperial stout. A great stout. Looking forward to drink more of this. 77ships (9890) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - AUG 5, 2012
(25 cl. bottle split with Belgbeergeek) // inky pitch black with touch lighter shade of mocha head // smell is a thick pure blend of sweet mocha, chocolate, meaty, gravy, brownies, very light cognac, almost smoked malt, thick sweet malts // taste is same goodness, quite on the meaty side of things, sweet gravy, sweet mocha, chocolate, thick malts, almost lightly smoked, warming, fruity, oak vanilla, hint of hops, cognac is surprisingly light despite being aged for 1 yr., only picking up something because I am trying to look for it // thick smooth goodness, lighter carb. // neat, yummy stuff n0mel (250) - FINLAND - NOV 15, 2012
(From notes 5 Nov, 2012) Bottle. Dark brown, fizzy head, gone in a second. Black pour. Amazing aroma; bacon, malt, vanilla and other greatness. Flavor is very malty, liquorice, coffee bitterness, roasted. Mouthfeel is slightly bubbly but smooth. Finish is bitter and malty. Bathory (458) - Kverneland, NORWAY - FEB 16, 2013
I cannot distinguish the cognac barrel, but I’m sure it contributed to this awesome imperial stout. I enjoyed this one very much.
Pours a completly black colour with a brown head that disappears a bot too fast. Aroma of coffee, wood, caramel, with a hint of vanilla. The cognac is notable to a certain extend in the smell, not too dominating which I like. Flavour is licorice, leather, ginger, caramel, roasted malts and wood. Both sweet and sour, with a bitterness that balances the whole thing in a very good way. Great balance. Full bodied, supersmooth mouthfeel. Overall I think that this beer has developed in a really good way, maybe it’s better than the original actually! Awesome!

Bottle @ tasting. Many thanks, tomschijns! Oily black colour, dark brown foam. Syrupy texture. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee, chocolate and warming alcoholic finish. Very well blend with the cognac. Fantastic stout! banii (240) - Sola, NORWAY - MAR 24, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2012 Bottle, Daglighallen, Trondheim. Pours clear black. Some foam forms at the very end of the pour, but very little. Aroma of oak and cocoa. Tastes of dry chocolate/cocoa, with some hints of vanilla. Ends with some powerful and dry oak-tones. This beer comes in a small bottle, but it plays with the big boys. Truly amazing. Bottle at home. Looks nice with its pitch black colour with a fast diminishing small dark brown head. Beautiful aroma of coffee, roasted malt, licorice, brownies, something sweet and some alcohol. A lot of coffee in the flavours, roast, black currants, wood, leather and some alcohol warmth. The mouthfeel is fantastic, rich, soft and slick. Bitterness = light+. The best beer I’ve had for a long time. Perfectly balanced. SirLimpsalot (4284) - SWEDEN - SEP 29, 2012
Stockholm Beer & Whiskey 2012: Fantastisk söt smak med tydlig fatton. den har en trevlig balans och en mycket mjuk eftersmak.
