COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We at Nøgne Ø wanted to improve our imperial stout. We soon found that to be a difficult task, as the beer is full of everything. Then we got some fresh Highland Scotch whisky barrels with some help of our friends at Mikkeller and BrewDog. They proved to be the perfect enhancement for this beer. After 3 months of ageing in these barrels, we were quite pleased. We hope you are too!

1st December 2009>br>Pigs Ear. Bottle thanks to our very tall Norwegian friend - Rune. Cheers mate! Opaque black beer, thick chocolate coloured head. Soft semi dry palate. Rich chocolatey malt with a nice blend of sour whisky. No peat or bitterness. Decent smooth chocowhisky beer!

Bottled. Small sample. The aroma has roast, chocolate, licorice and subtle whisky. Black coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is light-moderate sweet and has roast, chocolate, whisky. Medium-full bodied beer. Smooth and nice.

Pitch black in colour with a thick dark espresso coloured head. Aroma had scotch written all over it with a hard roasted character, lots of coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Peat, vanilla and sweetness from the oats but not overly sweet, dark fruits also like prunes, figs and dates. Full and rich mouth feel.

500ml bottle from my cellar. Pours a jet black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is a little smokey, not much else. Medium to heavy on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, a little chocolate, a little coffee roasty, some light oak, some smokey scotch, with a sweet, malty finish. Time did not do this beer any favors methinks.

"Well helllooooo. For some reason i was expecting overdone smokiness and scotch like the Mikkeller black hole version, but this was well done. I tasted little to no alcohol (9%) but the beer had some of the sherry/port characterisitics of worldwide stout, as well as the slightly sweet and smoky scotch, roasted malt and lots of chocolate. excellent beer if a bit pricey."

Bottle shared thanks to Paul from Brown! Pours a thick black with lacy tan head that sticks lightly. Aroma of whiskey, peat, vanilla, wood, roast, and chocolate. Taste follows, slightly boozy and nicely warming. Velvet and smooth, very nice.

Sampled at a recent tasting. Not sure who brought this but thank you! All the good qualities you look for in an imperial stout are there: oily lacing, aroma of whiskey and woody notes, slight chocolate etc. All well balanced!

No smokiness, just a weak and bland stout that has oxidized over the years.

From the depths of a cellar. Lovely black and thick. Aroma of wood, burnt malts and brown sugar. Taste is fullbodied, with wood, vanilla, burnt malts, dark fruits, plums and raisins. They dont make ’em like this anymore...
