We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2008 almost impossible to believe this was not stored in oak/bourbon barrels. pours like motor oil, the only change in color or appearance comes when you watch the brown stains that lace the glass before it settles into its pool of pure DARTH VADER. this brew does not fool around, the ’in your face’ flavors of chocolate, coffee, etc... that are typically assoicated with the style are muted or non existant. this brew attacks the pallete with pure solid strength that is unrending. the finish is of booze, not the roasted malts so much as youd find in some other ’run of the mill’ imperial stout. this shouldnt even be called an imperial stout, its in a league of its own, purely amazing.

Wytrawna, klasyczna interpretacja risa, bardzo kawowe, palone, nieco kwaskowate. Do przyjęcia, niebeczkowane risy rzadko urywają dpę.

Piana niewielka, drobna i trwała. Kolor czarny. Aromat ciemne palone słody, czekolada, owocowa słodycz, przyjemny. Smak, mocna kawa, czekolada, opiekane słody z nutą kwaskową. Ciało średnie, ciemne owoce suszone, wyraźne nuty chmieli nowofalowych, zwieńczone równie wyraźną pasującą goryczką. Piwo Bardzo Dobre, Genialny pijalny RIS bez udziwnień Skandynawskie RISowe WOW.

From Jun 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with russpowell. Thanks Russ! My first beer from this brewery: A very nice pour. A really thick looking pitch black brew with a 1 finger head of tan foam. Some good sticky lacing here and the head retention is better than average for the style. Taking a few whiffs, the smell is on the light side but I get some notes of coffee, dark fruit, and a bit of caramel malt. Sweetish overall. First sip and man, nice complexity going on here. Rich dark chocolate flavours are the first thing I notice and then the coffee shows itself along with some plum and toffee. And wow, the mouthfeel is superbly thick and the carbonation is livelier than I thought it would be but it works really well so no complaint here. Further sips in and I notice a slight tartness coming from the hops and it does a nice job in complimenting the other flavours. And the 9%abv? I'm trying hard to find it but I can't say I can. It's *very* well hidden. The finish is really tasty with notes of bitter chocolate and a light hoppiness. This is a damn good example of the style and the next time I visit Colorado, I'm going to pick up some. It *is* that damn good, imho!

Wytrawne, palone, dość gorzkie w stronę popiołu. Bardzo wytrawny stout, ale całkiem przyjemny.
