UPDATED: JAN 20, 2013 250 ml bottle in silk paper and metal cylinder, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 12.5%. Sampled side by side with 2. edition. Deep reddish brown colour, clearer and slightly paler than the 2. edition, low off-white head. The aroma here is somewhat better, notes of red wine and red beets. The flavour is definitely better, vinous notes (fortified wine), hints of oak, nicely balanced bitterness in the finish. Warming mouthfeel, but slightly less alcoholic than 2. ed. Quite good stuff.
Bottle @ "X3 får skideren på af mange share (og brygger cider)". Pours red amber with a beige head. Aroma of old rice, ashes, metal, caramel and clay. 250ml bottle [#01618]. Cloudy, dark amber colour with a thin layer of beige bubbles. Slightly smoky, spicy, and sweet-ish malty aroma, notes of plum wine, sherry, hints of peat, marmite. a touch of blue mold cheese. Taste is sweet malty, peaty, slightly yeasty spicy, notes of plum wine, sherry, hints of peat with a cardboard touch, a marmite touch, hoppy counterpart struggles to fight the sweetness. Aus der Flasche (bottled 2011-12) im 2016-11 getrunken. Dies hebt sich deutlich durch seine japanische Sake-Hefe ab und kann doch mit klassischen Noten dieses Stiles überzeugen. Ein sehr edles Teil.

Second of three, missing the first. Cheers to a good mate for sending this across a few years ago. Cellar temperature and into a snifter. Muddy brown and lifeless with heavy yeast sediment forming a sub-level oasis of fun for the daring. Deeply earthy, umami nose. Sprinkled with lashings of fish sauce, rubber, fresh strapped leather, Jarrah timber, muddy loam, light soy sauce and kecap manis; it might well be a salted salad in Thailand. Yeasty and sherryish on the palate. Salty with gammyish notes of toffee and praline; nutty, lightly piney woodiness under-served. Body medium and oily. Soft in carbonation. Vinous, drabby; low hop to nil at all. Taste is light smoke, caramel, beurre noisette, almond meal and muscatels with that hint of nước mắm just aiding the funk of this. Lasting ash and nước mắm with a mid to high recoil of residual sugars from all the nuances. Alcohol evident but masqueraded and hidden well. A smoky, sweet earthy risotto in a glass, with funk and junk not well but well incorporated. Not a mind bending experience, but a beer with prowess and dignity!! Rating #2212 - 2015.12.02 - Beer School @7Degrees. Pours a bubbly ruby colour with a decent off white head that fades rapidly. Aroma is feet & cheese, caramel toffee malt, dired fruit, raisin, prune. Aroma: brie cheese, bisquits, rum.
Taste: moderate to strong sweetness balanced with hoppy bitterness.
Flavour: cheesy and earty, dark fruits, some leather, some phenols.
