We brewed this ale only with the famous sake yeast No. 7 from Masumi Sake in Nagano, Japan. On advice from Masumi’s master brewers we fermented this ale very slowly at low temperatures to bring out No. 7’s fabulously fruity character. This is a beer, but has some flavors found in a sake. A great combination!

Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pours hazy dark amber with thin white head. Nose surprisingly fruit for this big beer. Candied apple, toffee, some pear. Taste moderate sweet up front, similar fruit character to nose, fairly crisp for older beer. Mid palate moderate bitter and definite alcohol. Some continue alcohol on finish with some malt.

8.5 oz. bottle from The Wine and Cheese Place. Purchased in 2010, but I guess this was brewed in 2009. Original 17% version. Pours a cloudy amber color with virtually no head. Warms the nostrils, and has a sort of spicy edge to it, too. Notes of sweet and caramel malts, brown sugar and maybe some toasted cane sugar, too, earth, a bit of cardboard, and vanilla. Hard to pin down. Rice and beans? Medium-bodied, with a boozy, spicy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Pretty interesting. I am a sake novice and had no idea what to expect with this hybrid ale.

250 ml bottle. #430. Bottled on 08/06/2009. From Alko some years ago. Hazy mid-brown colour with no head. Sweetness, malt, mild farmyardy notes, some dried fruits and alcohol in the aroma. The flavour is... Wow! It's burning... Alcohol is well present. Sweetness, malt, yeast, alcohol and vinous notes. Intoxicating. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Amber pour with a couple of bubbles. Sweet malt, fruit, and other sweet aromas. Malty, sweet, sake, dry flavors. For 17% actually drinkable.

Geokkjer (7663) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - OCT 3, 2014
Bottle. Pours deep golden with a tiny off-white head. Aroma of alcohol, rice, white asparagus, malt and bread. Flavor is sweet and warming with some caramel, oxidized notes, bread and fruitiness. Full body, soft carbonation.

"light orange in color, sweet fruity honey-like aroma and a similar flavor. alcohol is obvious, but it’s not overly hot. a little sticky and slick going down. the sake yeast lends a unique aspect, but it’s not elite, and therefore not worth the high $."

25 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark amber with no head. Aroma and flavour are caramel, dried fruit, and alcohol - with an alcoholic finish.

Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 14, 2014
8.5 ounce bottle, with some age obviously. Pours a hazy brown with not much of head (and there was barely a hiss upon opening). Aroma of toffee, caramel, earth, cardboard, tart and dry fruits, faint hints of booze. The taste is sweet caramel, sunflower seeds, nuts, honey, oats, booze, candied berry like fruit notes, vanilla. Medium-full bodied, low carbonation, fairly hot. Solid beer. Interesting.

Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - AUG 5, 2014
Milky amber pour with a white head. The aroma is fairly heavy on the caramel and alcohol, as expected with a beer that is 17%. The flavor is very sweet with a lot of caramel notes and brown sugar. There is also a strong tobacco character with a lot of cigar notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
