To enhance the flavor of our Sunturnbrew, we aged it in bourbon barrels for a year. We think it was a good year!

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2013 Pours a brown hazy colour with almost no head at all. Sticky aroma with lots of sourness. The bourbon is very present. Flavour is very sour, with the smokeyness in the background. Some red fruits in the aftertaste. Medium body for a 11 abv, sticky mothfeel, with little carbonation. I didn’t like this one at all, way too sour. Think this one may need som storing for some years to balance out a bit.

Piwo ma kilka lat. Vintage +/- 2013. Fajny balans i ten bourbon. No powiedzmy, że ten kwasek zamierzony.

25cl bottle at home. Pale dark brown with a small off-white head. Full body with low carbonation. Well balanced sweet and bitter tones. Caramel, malts, smoke, bourbon, chocolate and coffee. Good stuff!

Very slick on the tongue
Superb beer. I’ve enjoyed it a lot

50 IBU. Bruin bier met rode gloed en weinig schuim. Geur: gerookte banaan, vanille, botermelk, cola prik. Smaak: licht zuur, geturft, zeer vineus. Wrange combinatie. Niet mijn smaak.

Bottle. Tasted almost three years ago. Beer is complex, roasted, smoked, nice bourbon barrel notes. Tasty.

Rating #2256 - 2015.12.15 - Draught @underground_yeg. Pours a midnight black in colour with a minimal tan head that fades quickly. Distinct smoky, vanilla/toffee aroma oozes out. Very unique body, medium alcohol warmth, predominant smokiness on the palate tempered with the dry, bitter roast malt character of the stout. Bourbon vanilla comes through splendidly, and yet the smokiness is still the star. Wondrous.

kajser27 (1806) - Zagreb, CROATIA - MAY 4, 2016
Dark brown to black colored, small beige head, floaters. Aroma is peat, wood with barrel sourness, bit bourbon, vinous, some caramel and dark fruit notes, light roast. Taste is medium+ sweet malt, caramel, dark fruits, moderate peat, salty, wood, some bourbon barrel and sourness, burned-peat more pronounced in the finish and dominates the aftertaste, some alcohol and warmth, aggressive. Medium+ bodied, soft to flat carbonation, sticky. Salty peat, sweet caramel/fruit and sour wood... not a combination I like. (bottle, Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte)

(Nøgne Ø Sunturnbrew Bourbon Barrel) Bottle 250 ml received from a trade with Cuso a couple of years ago, many thanks Imro! Served into a snifter, ABV 11% Dark brown to almost totally black colour on the body, with a small and a bit thin light beige head on top, with lo retention, eventually leaving a thin line of foam around the glass. Aroma has plenty of smoked malts and peat, light alcohol, nice notes of bourbon. Taste is sweet with a faint touch of acidity, plent of smoke, peat, bourbon, alcohol, light vanilla, some dark fruits. Medium thick body with soft carbonation. Very good, 250 ml was too little for this one.
