To enhance the flavor of our Sunturnbrew, we aged it in bourbon barrels for a year. We think it was a good year!

Draft. A pale brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of smoke and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits and bourbon.

[email protected] (from Vinmonopolet Kirkenes). Deep ambery brown colour, small brown head. Aroma is smoked wood, some sour wood, mild sweetness as well as some toasted notes. Flavour is wooden, some smoked notes, mild tartness and sourness as well. Also slight raisins and plummy notes as it warms up.

Bottle at Grunnerloka. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Smooth softish palate, has some body. The barrelling has smoothed out some of the rough edges of the base beer. Smoky peat nicely balanced with the sweeter bourbon - vanilla - wood. There is alcohol warmth in the finish but it adds rather than detracts. Nicely balanced.

The bourbon is subtle enough in this one for the smoke and the spiciness to shine through. Very tasty.

Bottle at home ... dark brown ... thin tan head ... soft smoked ... toffee malt nose ... soft n sweet bourbon front ...soft smokey ... little fruityness ... this is NOT a combination that works for me

omhper (25956) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - JUL 5, 2013
Bottled, from Systembolaget. Cloudy dark brown, minimal head. Aroma of peaty smoke with some tart wine. Mid sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Peat and bourbon, peppery heat and red wine. Warming finish with salty bitterness. Very intense.

Papsoe (25054) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 20, 2012
On tap. Pours brown with an orange hue and a small beige head. Very sticky butter aroma mixed with caramel. Rich body, sweet burned caramel, rustic wood, some iodine. Fortunately the butter notes remain an aroma thing only. Warming alcohol finish with a slight tartness. Rather unclean. 120512
