3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at CBF 2012. Claret brown, low offwhite head. Peated, fruity aroma, smoked makril - fatty, salt, a bit chocolate. I get the smoke, but I can’t guess where the salt comes from. Chocolate roast retronasal, salt on the palate.

Bottle from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: deep intensive dark brown beer with no carbonation and no foam. Smell: peat domination, oak notes. Full rich body, caramel hint. Taste: full body with peat malt balanced with woody notes. Full intensive body and quiet good attenuation. Woody notes, and peat. Aftertaste: oak barrel alcohol notes with peat and massive strong malt. OK.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draught at Mother Kelly’s, Bethnal Green on 30 August. Poured a really dark ruby, with a dense off white head. Huge aroma of peat, oak, iodine, caramel and Islay whisky. The mouthfeel was super smooth and light on the tongue. Complex flavours of burnt sugar, smoke, medicine and grain. Finnish was toffee with some cured meaty notes coming through, cheese and grain. Absolutely amazing beer!

Draught keg at Mother Kellys. Woah - madly phenolic aroma, you’re not sure what you are letting yourself in for flavour-wise - whisky & TCP give way to a pleasing soft brown-sugar malt finish. One to enjoy by the third.

On tap, Haand Festival 2012. Theregular version is one of my very favourites, the oak chips give an extra dryness and some vanilla. But I’m not convninced it is really an improvement.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear red brown with small light brown foam ring. Aroma is quite nice, oak and dark brown fresh bread. Some coffee. Taste is smooth, nothing outstanding, just a smooth velvet wood taste. Like being at a carpenter workshop. (Bergen 201311)

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a viscous dark brown that shows the strength of the beer. Hardly any head, very slight carbonation. Aroma slightly smoky with peaty earth and wood, like old planks. Taste has a definite single malt whisky-style peat and alcohol intensity. Strongly minerally, like a muscadet wine. Hint of salt and burnt acridity too. Hard to place on a liked/didn’t like scale - though it clearly is an accomplished brew.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On keg at North Bar, dark brown, only a small head, with a lovely thick palate with cherry, smoke, whisky and earthy oak. Nice and smooth.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark brown with whisper of a tan head. Whirlwind of peat and woody plum, I could swirl this for hours without a sip. Big boozy slats of baked fruits, dampened by a watery coffee thread. Mouthfeel is the right side of syrupy and a oaky vanilla linger to match. A really impressive foot up on an already impressive brew.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Keg @ North Bar. Dark brown colour, thin off-white head. Islay whisky, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak and a touch of dark fruit on the nose. Taste is smoked meat, peat smoke, caramel and a touch of bitter coffee. Finish is herbal, bitter and warming with a lingering smoke presence. Wonderfully soft and full palate. Fantastic.

for me this was not great given im not a fan of single malt whiskys this may not have been the best choice. as a beer it very interesting as its like drinking scotch whiskey beer ... i have copied and passed ( with a few alterations) the reviewed from the peted version as it sums up my experience perfectly and im sure its the same thing !
" Nose is SMOKEY! No other aromas! Initial taste is not to smokey, but the aftertaste is Laphroig times two! Distinct smoked whisky! A lasting taste, just like the whisky. Quite sweet with a thick mouthfeel.
