Ingredients: Malted barley, wheat, malted wheat, sugar, hops, yeast and local Grimstad water. It is very difficult to brew a complex and balanced Belgian-style tripel ale, but we have made an attempt at brewing one anyway! Our respect and admiration for those who master the skill and art of brewing excellent ale of this style is limitless. Tripels often pair with cheese, seafood and fresh vegetables.

joergen (29994) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 10, 2009
Draught at Olympen, Oslo. Hazy golden coloured with a medium sized white head. Fruity aroma of spices and yeast. Fruity flavour of yeast, spices, liquorice and alcohol. Spicy and warming alcoholic finish. Nice tripel.

espenra (1016) - Kurland, NORWAY - JUL 9, 2009
50cl bottle at Olympen. Batch 414. Brewed 2009-03-04. Best before 2014-03-04. It poured a light golden colour with a huge white foamy head. The aroma is a bit spicy, hoppy and with notes of yeast. Some malts. The flavour is also spicy and hoppy. Some yeast, alcohol, wheat and brown sugar. I can’t decide if it reminds me more of Orval or Westmalle Tripel. The aftertaste is a bort short.

Rune (14150) - Tromsø, NORWAY - JUN 22, 2009
500ml bottle, batch 414, shared with Elisabeth at Henrik Øl og Vinstove. Hazy golden body. White layer on the top. Unfortunately, the label design does not have the average high standard of Nøgne Ø. Inviting smell of half-dried citrus fruits sustained by typical Belgian spices. Initial taste of malty dryness followed by ripe banana and wheat added by a touch of yeast. Bittersweet ending. Hidden alcohol. Solid bodied (Bergen, 18.06.2009).

thebeertourist (5188) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 21, 2009
Bottle at Olympen, Oslo. Pours hazy golden with a rich, lacing offwhite head. Complex fruity and grassy hop aromas as well as notes of candy sugar. Good bitterness, noticeable alcohol. Complex hop flavours blending well with candy sugar. A very successful tripel from the no 1 Norwegian craft brewer.

yngwie (17477) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JUN 21, 2009
Bottle. It pours a hazy orange-golden body with a dense, white head. Lacings. The aroma is quite citrusy, with spices, wheat, some yeasty hints and a nice hoppy profile. Sugary sweetness also quite evident, a bit more than I could wish for. A bit sweet on the flavor too, but it dries up in the finish. Citrus, peaches, wheat, spices and a nice bitterness too. Full-bodied, smooth, warm, and a bit sticky. Some alcohol follows you from the first sniff until the finish. The smoked malt was noticable earlier, but seems to have disappeared as the beer has matured. A nice tripel, but a bit sweet initially. (090621)

yespr (49451) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - JUN 19, 2009
50 cL bottle, courtesy of yngwie. Pours a hazy yellow to light orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild spiced, caramelish and light roasted, I didn’t pick up the smoke before after the first sip - rather subdued. Fruity and yeasty flavoured, mild spiced - classic triple yet with a subtle smoke note. Interesting although I’m not so sure the smoke adds much to the brew. Slight alcohol warmth in the finish.

OleR (4801) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 16, 2009
500 ml bottle [email protected], Oslo. A big foamy white head rising from an unclear, orangey-golden body. Soft wheaty malt aroma, doughy and fresh yeasty. Also a light musty scent, and a distant whiff of fruits and mild spices. Taste is medium sweet, has a rounded fruit flavor. Yeasty with a mellow maltiness. A mild bitterness and a faint spice note beneath. Very soft in the mouth. Low carbonation level. Spicy, light bitter ending. A pretty good Tripel.

Unclear medium yellow color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, light smokey, fruity notes, moderate hoppy, moderate to light heavy yeasty. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20090514]

Papsoe (25054) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 6, 2009
Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of yngwie. Pours a hazy and opaque yellow with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of yeast with a light and refined whiff of smoke. Quite full-bodied, fruit and yeast and again a discreet and subtle edge of smoke. Some alcohol in the finish. 140509

tarjei (1954) - Bryne, NORWAY - JUN 4, 2009
50 cl bottle at home. Hazy yellowish color, big white head. Aroma is fruit, spices and yeast - the most Belgian from NØ so far. Flavor is also typical begian, with some hops and fine sweetness (it´s sweet, but imo not TOO sweet). There´s a lot of smoked malt in this beer. The smoke is very much in the background, but it is there, and it makes this tripel very complex and very drinkable!
