COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We loved the lithe coquettishness of last year’s Red Ryeding Hood, but this year we wanted to make our Red Ale release a little more forthright. Enter the cult champion of Anti-Imperial Forces, Admiral Ackbar. This is a big warming malty ale with a ton of Nelson Sauvin and Citra hops, not too bitter, not an IPA, just a big hoppy red ale. We thought about putting Mon Calamari in the beer, but we’re not a big fan of novelty for novelty’s sake.

330ml bottle. Pours a copper amber with a thin beige head. Aroma: biwcuity malt, caramel, toffee, dates, brown sugar. Nice aroma. Taste: caramel malt, biscuity malt, toffee, dates and dried fruit, pine flavours. Mild citrus flavours. Resinous texture. Moderate sweetness. No bitterness. Low carbonation. Incredibly tasty! This is a great beer!

Clear deep red brown with an inviting sweet fruit, raisin and bready aroma. Sweet and fizzy thin fruity hops with treacle, nuts and licorice flavours upfront. Boozy bitterness, rasins, molasses with smokey malts at the backend. Smells and tastes a lot like an IPA. Looks and feels like a red. Although this is smooth and uniquely balanced, this is an interesting experience. Very enjoyable too. A great beer.

Very clear, filtered brown red with lacy white head. Sweet malts smell, some dark raisin-y notes too. Taste is more bitter than expected from aroma, but lots of sweetness and a clawing ’red’ taste keep bitterness in check. Alcohol is definitely there, but not overpowering. It’s a sipper, but easy to sip quickly!

330 ml bottle from Hawthorne Cellars. Aroma is hops and malt. Pours deep red with tan head. Flavours are really balanced between the malt background and just enough hops to be called "hoppy". Definitely enjoyable and recommended. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Black Bunny Kitchen, pours a hazy amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma is quite jumbled, with bready malt, some minor diacetyl and a little perfumey hops. Flavour is also a bit jumbled, with bready malt, some caramel and a touch of hop resins. Not integrated well. Not offensive, but it’s a long shot from the better imperial red ales from North America.

Pours a beautiful chocolate brown with luscious off white lacing. Aroma is toffee, sticky golden syrup and orange-lemon citrus. Flavour is a delicious balance of sweet and sticky malt notes with sweet and sticky hops. Delicious! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Deep red with a beige head that laces extravagantly. Aroma of treacle toffee, grass, menthol, green mango, guava, kumquats. Then a little lighter bodied than that big noseful suggested, creamy with carbonation on the low side of medium. Malty with molasses and some bread, but not all that sweet, Accented by tropical fruit and citrus. Moderately bitter with some spices emerging at the end. I wouldn’t have thought those malt flavours would go with those hops but it all fits together very nicely.
