English: Seven Niepoort Barrel is a very rich imperial stout, brewed in October 2008 by 7 of the best brewers in Denmark by a pooling of their individual recipes for the beer. After primary fermentation, this fraction of the brew was racked into a port wine barrel from our friends at Niepoort. After 7 (!) months in the barrel, the beer is intensely full bodied, with rich port like sweetness. The aroma and flavour is dominated by ripe grapes, port, coffee, chocolate and liquorice roast characters. Silky smooth and full palate with a medium sweet, warming and long aftertaste.

Bottle generously shared by nbutler11 @ Woodshed 1.0! Never really thought I’d get a chance to try any from this series and so glad I had the opportunity. Dark mahogany pour with a chestnut edge and small latte head. Aroma of cocoa, char, molasses, roasted coffee, and dark fruit. Lots of brownie, fudge, coffee and ash, along with a slight wine finish. Not a lot of vanilla or oak...getting more toasted malt than anything. Creamy even after the aging. The ABV is invisible. Nicely done but think this one would have been better fresh.

Thanks oh6gdx! Deep black color, small brown head. Roasted malts, sweet caramel, cocoa and tar in the aroma. Full-bodied. Licorice, cocoa, light molasses and dark fruits. Lingering toastyness in the aftertaste. Balanced and smooth although can’t trace much of portwine here. Probably ageing (3 years) has cut the sweetness here.

Black with a chocolaty brown head. In the nose, coffee, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, toffee, oaky, raisins, figs, vanilla, alcohol. Taste, dark bitter chocolate with a well balanced smoothness, blueberries, dark berries, notes of cherries, and a great long finish of red apples and cream.

37.5cl bottle pours super dark and infrared around the edges with nice full mocha head. The aroma is just plain old yummy with molasses, very dark roasted malts, chocolate brownies, dark chocolate candy bar, black strap molasses and a bit of dark cherries. The taste is equally pleasing with both chewy and yummy and velvety smooth notes in the form of dark roasted malts, burnt malts, chocolate, vanilla, a mild red wine note and smooth sweet caramel covered wood. This is just plain yummy!

Black of color with a dark brown head. An aroma of liqurice, port, chocolate, honey and coffee - really nice, no bitterness. A flavor of liqurice, honey, coffee, chocolate - weak bitterness and oily texture.

Bottle. Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma full of port, roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, some alcohol, nuts, toffee and ripe fruits. Very full. Flavor is somewhat boozy, roasted bitter with a delicate port and fruity finish. Slightly out of balance, but an amazingly powerful brew.

Bottle. Huge port aroma hit the nose when opened. Aroma is port, bordeaux, fruits and some roasted malt. Flavour is strong and roasty bitterness covered in port and wood. Spicy, roasty, porty. Very nice.

Bottle thanks to David, what a celebration we had! Pours a black color with a small white head. A sweet sugary barrel of port wine, some metal and roast. The flavor is awesome; dry dark fruit, heavy port and sweet sugary liquors, loads of roast and metallic burnt malts. Very robust and strong. Great!
