4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
In short: A complex big fruity chocolaty stout with a great barrel character
How: Bottle 375ml capped, at Bishops Arms Järntorget, Göteborg Sweden
The look: Black body topped by a tan ring of foam
In long: Nose has a big rich malty aroma and a complex barrel character, like a mix of many types of barrel aging (wine, whisky, virgin oak, more…). Complex big beer aroma here. Taste is smooth velvety rich blackened malts with the expected usual suspect of black chocolate, vanilla, black liquorice and friends. There is also a nice fruity complexity that includes blackberries and dark grapes. But is it is the complex barrel character that makes this beer stand out. The barrel aging is not overdone, it doesn’t overwhelmed the beer but it adds a lot of subtleties (wood, fruits, port wine, more…). This is not “another barrel aged imperial stout”, this beer stands out from the crowd. I’m really sad to see this is now retired, is there a Make A Wish foundation with a mission to help desperate beer geeks to reconnect with beers that are no longer in production? There should be.
375ml bottle poured into a Teku.
A~ dark with a crazy red hue with a little carb and a little lacing.
S~ tons of red wine and sweet berries up front mixed with some nice roasted burnt coffee.
T~ super well rounded and balanced! follows the nose with roasted burnt coffee all blended with a rush of sweet berry like wine and dark fruits. that European style stout!
M~ pretty much no carb but so smooth!

375ml bottle stored for quite a few years in my cellar. Bought at Nørrebro Brygghus, shared with Richard and Finn. Low, tan-coloured head. Deep black body with a rustic shade. Scattered lacing. Smell of dark bread, liquorice and oak. Berry fruits and dark malts with coffee and liquorice come together very well to the flavour profile. Port-like impression. Long-lived, warming finish. Full bodied. Velvety smooth on the swallow. Excellent slow sipper (Tromsø 08.10.2016). The_Osprey (9126) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 29, 2015
Bottle shared at Scopey’s 10K, many thanks to Leighton. Black with a small bubbly tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate, redcurrant, port and booze. Nice. Body is medium, tingly carbonation, smooth. Taste is dark chocolate, meaty, molasses, pretty dry into the finish. A bit more meaty and oxidised than the red wine version. But great nonetheless.
