3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Black, large frothy beige head, clingly lacing.   Pale hops, slight chocolate, soft roasted malts.   Not a bright IPA, not heavily roasty either.   Has more chocolate than most.   Soft hoppy bitterness, pale roast (very soft, nearly toasted), with not so much chocolate that I got on the nose.   At least no pasture, which is nice.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Soft roasty citrusy hoppy sweetness lingers.   A decent example, not big, no pasture, pale roast (more like toasted).   If you want a hoppy Black IPA, this aint it.   Moderate, with a touch more sweetness than most.   Thanks for the bottle Bill!
Tap at NXNW brewery, Austin. Dark brown color, small beige head. Light toasted aroma, some smoke too perhaps (or is it their coal oven). Medium-bodied. Ash, caramel, light licorice. Lacks hops. Not much of CDA here. Meh. dresden (1581) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - NOV 2, 2012
Black with foamy head. Roast and coffee and grapefruit aroma. Taste is grassy hops with a pretty light bodied malt base. Its nice but a bit subdued. Pretty good. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JAN 4, 2012
(22oz bottle, courtesy of thirdeye11) Pours a mahogany body with a tall rocky beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, charred bread, chocolate, and pine. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, subtle smoke, and grapefruit. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - NOV 16, 2011
On tap at the brewpub.
The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malt, with some pine mixed in as well. The flavor is more of the same. The chocolate and malt notes go very well with the resinous pine notes. The bitterness if low, although the hop flavor is pretty strong. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation,

Pint glass at the joint- served an almost black appearance with a hue of dark ruby when sat against a far light source, wafer thin light brown head was formed and did lace to a degree. Aroma of a thick malt with just a fine note of hops in the background. Hits the mouth with a light-medium body, malt tastes like it was slightly smoked which just made it more enjoyable, very small hop cresent in the middle, finish has a pull of caramel and chocolate. It did for dinner! bleeng (1682) - Seattle still not near Beersel., Washington, USA - NOV 13, 2011
Jet black with a small tan head. Nose is mildly malty with some hint of chocolate. Very cold. Not much hop profile. Taste is very smooth and malty, with just some slight hop presence. A bit sharp on the end. Decent. kidmartinek (5001) - austin, Texas, USA - NOV 2, 2011
Faint cocoa, dirt, and mild tan malt aroma. A near black pour with a small light tan head that leaves spotty but intricate lacing on the glass. Flavor is cocoa with some fruit peel sweetness. It has a sparp quick bite a small burn and a full body. The aftertaste is nice and bitter on the palate but the sweetness detracts. Probably bad tap lines again.
