Pours black with a medium sized tan head although when held to the light you will see a chestnut translucence.Roasted nose with a hint of nuttiness to it. Flavor is nice with the roasted notes from the nose along with a little hop bitterness. Medium bodied with a very clean finish. As jcalabre said you cant beat this beer for 84 cents a bottle. Interested to see this from North Coast when they already brew the excellent No. 38 and Rasputin. Surprised they didn't put the Acme label on it and would be surprised to hear what the Black Hart part is all about. Damp malty aroma, charcoaled roastiness and slightly sour.Full flavored with plenty of dark chocolate, roasted coffee almost smoky while relatively easy drinking. Decent 6-pack. This wins the "bang for the buck" award in my book. At 84 cents per bottle, you can't go wrong. Very dark brown w/ a 2 finger tan head. Lots of cocoa flavor w/ some hop zingers. Very enjoyable. knickerbocker (13) - USA - APR 10, 2003
For the money a decent stout. Not as heavy as most stouts but still stoutlike.
Good bitter sting and clean aftertaste. Lots of rich brown tastes. jazz88 (2699) - San Francisco, California, USA - APR 3, 2003
Bottle. A very dark brown color with a laced brown head. A sweet chocolate aroma with some roasted nuts. A smooth chocolate flavor with a dry roasted edge and a little tingle in the mouth.

I cant believe i picked this up for 84 cents and it turned out to be this damn good!!!! It poured a dark brown color but led way to a fiery ruby red color in the light, my only markdown, with medium carbonation levels and a medium tanned head. The aroma was brimming with cocoa, coffee, roasts, nuts and a hoppiness. The taste is pure cocoa and chocolate...but oh my goodness, its actually a full bodied drink, not a thin coating layer of crap for once..oh how i have yearned for a stout that would do this for...ummmm...about 10 days now. Heavy nuts, malt, and dryness..lovely cocoa. Very pleasant drink..some bittering aspects, nicely palatable. Im impressed, a nice seasonal stout. rodolito (163) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 18, 2003
Imbibed in November 2002. An aroma of coffe and faint chocolate. A dark brownish-black color with a thin tan head that quickly died. Roasted barley flavor with some coffe and toffee. Slightly acidic. microdyke (360) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 12, 2003
Dark Brown to black...cola color with a very small almost not present bubbly brown head. Aroma was not strong with a hint of roasted malts and chocolate. Way more carbonated than I expected with a little tingle in the tongue. It was a mild chocolate flavor, slightly metallic...but not too much. A touch of coffee with the dry finish. Not as dry as I expected for a dry stout. DaSilky1 (2608) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 22, 2002
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2003 powdered cocoa aroma seeping from extreme darkness lighted only by the thin tan head...black coffee was also noted in the aroma as well as a slight sugary presence..in fact..aroma was very pleasing...very light feeling in the mouth...the cocoa turned artificial in the flavor..almost rusty yet not full blown metallic...bitter artificially powdered cocoa finish..A let down since the aroma...oh well beerguy101 (5364) - Newark, California, USA - NOV 8, 2002
Eclipse Black color, small head. Aroma is coffee and a little coca. A dry stout. Full bodied and flavorful. Roasted malts. Coffee and cocoa flavor. There is a very slight metallic flavor to this beer, not unpleasant. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. A nice dry stout.
