UPDATED: OCT 29, 2012 I think I’m in the my minority but I didn’t really care for this one despite my relatively high rating. A beautiful dark amber color pour and I was hoping for the best... The intial taste was above average but I really did not care for the kind of sour/yeasty after taste. Reminded me a little of an IPA which I’m not fond of and probably won’t turn down but won’t seek out. OK>>>I rerated this...much better than I rated earlier. I’ve tried it twice since my first pour and i have admit I was wrong...really, really good brew!
750ml corked bottle poured a clear brown hue w/ a medium fully diminishing fizzy tan head. Light sweet bready aromas. Initial flavor is moderate sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Tastes are brown sugar, Belgian sugars, caramel, dark breads, figs, and tobacco. Full bodied w/ a warm boozy finish.

I have had better belgium ales, there is a bitterness in the after taste that I do not believe should be there in a quality ale.

Love the chocolate taste, there’s more flavor to it but the chocolate will be all over your taste buds 17Beer (339) - Connecticut, USA - APR 25, 2017
Good yeasty Belgian smells. Pours dark brown with tan head. Good lacing. Nuts and dried raisins with a sweet finish. Well balanced, medium carbonation. Nice. mike_77 (6553) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - APR 16, 2017
Light brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of candy sugat and malts. Good balance of sweetness and alcohol. DavidWoodruff (600) - Windsor, California, USA - APR 12, 2017
Brilliant brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is of dark dried fruit, toffee and molasses. The malt sweetness is balanced by the drying alcohol. Medium bodied (seems thin for the overall hugeness of the beer. Great malty, spicy finish. Love it! meccahh69lol (188) - New Haven, Connecticut, USA - MAR 20, 2017
This is a very nice Belgian - and we like the Thelonious Monk nod. Pours a dark brown, with a malty and smooth aroma. The taste is also quite smooth, with some light sweetness and a slightly creamy texture. Great for sneaking onto an airplane in LA to share with your booboo when you’re back on the east coast.
