4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 29, 2014 Pours a near pitch black color with a big thick head that lingers a bit. Aroma is deep roasted malt, smoke, coffee, chocolate and some light fruitiness. Very intense taste. Big roasty and smokey beer with hints of chocolate. Smokiness is a bit much for my liking. Finish has a strong bitterness and a pretty high carbonation for an Imperial Stout. A light fruitiness and spicy character comes through in the finish too. This beer has a nice intense complexity but its a bit smokey, a tad thin, and too much carbonation for me. I prefer my Imperial Stouts to be smoother and softer. Re-rate 10/29/14 - My tastes have probably changed a bit. This is a very roasty and intense stout. Really great. Not that smoky like my original review. It’s also not thin, more medium boy. And the carbonation might be high when compared to most imperial stouts but it’s not bothersome. Great imperial stout, especially for the price and availability.

Roasted malty aroma. Black color, medium brown head. Light to medium sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness. Medium to full body, long finish. drjoeng (1461) - SINGAPORE - JAN 10, 2018
9%ABV. Russian Imperial Stout.
Poured out black. 40ºSRM.
Nose has chocolate, coffee, dark toffee, deep roasted nut aroma suggesting praline pecans and roasted cashews. Sweet malty, boozy on the nose as well.
Mouthfeel is surprisingly light with pronounced carbonation. Palate is not cloying at all! There is a brief hint of malt sweetness right on the front. Amazingly drinkable with deep roasty bitter with roasted malt, black coffee, charcoal. Hop flavors are resin and sap.
Finish is medium with hoppy, charcoal, and sweet.

I was in Düsseldorf Germany and I found this beer it was chock full of Richey goodness like when you were a kid and your Cocoa Puffs would sit in the milk for a long time.

Bottle. Appearance: dark black, with dark brown low to medium foam, fading rather quickly. Smell: chocolate, coffee, some hops dankness. Taste: notes of chocolate and roasted coffee with nice red/dark fruit aromas, smooth caramel maltiness, medium bitterness, very nice texture and feel for ABV and style. Overall: this is a world class Russian Imperial Stout, living up to its reputation.

Flaska. Svart med ett beigt skum. Dofter av kaffe och rostad malt. Smakinslag av kaffe, mörk choklad, torkad frukt och trä. Aningen för mycket kolsyra för min trivsel. Dock fin kaffe-eftersmak. Dacrza (1071) - Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA - DEC 15, 2017
DATE: December 15, 2017... OCCASION: relaxing after the annual Frost ugly holiday sweater party... GLASSWARE: Corsendonk stemmed tulip... builds a three-finger brown slushy head that forms a mesa at its center... the pile of brown head sits atop the crypt-like blackness... thick cocoa intensity early, with a soft lactic enticement... roasted malts mesh with oats, coffee bean, and earthy vegetable... first sip is potent, thick, warming, lasting, resounding with a molasses-like consistency... slightly boozy, but not alcoholic.... strong, dry, and commanding... sweet, almost puckering at 9%, textured enough to leave a tobacco-like herbal finish... after passing this by in stores for years, I am happy to have made its intimate acquaintance... the smears of lacing articulate a quality product, with heavy clouds around the glass... huge payoff, and one that drinks like a scotch... helenfabricant (2) - - DEC 15, 2017 does not count

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2017 Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium creamy head. Smells of roasted coffee, caramel and a hint of dark fruits. Taste follows the nose with a rich roasted coffee taste and notes of sweet caramel malts, dark fruits and chocolate, with a nice bitter finish. Mouthfeel is nice, but could honestly be better, which is my main complain here. Does not top Narwhal for me, which has a better mouthfeel and is more chocolate-forward, with a milder bitterness.
