Pours out a redish dark. Carbonation was soft but there till the last drop. No lacing in this one. Smells wonderful for a barley wine. It smells like a fruit basket a old shit would get for their birthday, like prunes, prunes and spice.
The taste is there! You have to try this one. My body warmed up instantly. I could taste everything. The main were sweet fruit, malt, alcohol and bitterness at the end. I drank it at room tep. and it was very good. 11.4%, 2003 can8ianben (1545) - State College, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 4, 2006

2005 bottle. Pours a luminous copper with a persistant cap of off-white head. Carmeled apple aroma, with candied orange peel, vanilla, and just a touch of sherry. Bourbon bread pudding flavor delivered with very fine carbonation. A bit of lemon bitterness in the finish. Tons of alcohol presense, but in a good this-should-be-sipped kind of way. 12 oz bottle. 2004. Clear burgundy brown with a whisper of a tan head. Cedar, caramel, butterscotch and rubbing alcohol. Only a bit of sweetness that succumbs to the alcohol with a bitter aftertaste. Very harsh alcoholic taste and astringence. It did easy up as it warmed in the glass and a great depth of flavors were noticeable.

Pours a beautiful red/amber color, white head. Aroma is sweet and malty, a little dark fruit, and some alcohol/boozy notes. Flavor is sweet, more ripe dark fruit, lots of alcohol, slightly hoppy kick towards the end. A little more booze, than I’d like. More hoppy than I’d expect for a 2 year old barleywine as well. UPDATED: SEP 16, 2011 The aroma is alcohol, oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, raisins and a leaves. The appearance is a reddish brown with a medium head. The flavor has all the elements from the aroma with a sweet dark fruit element that accompanies a butter scotch note. The palate is smooth with a lingering aftertaste. UPDATED: JAN 16, 2007 2006 Bottle: 1/16/07 11.6% Rusty copper with a ring of sticky foam. Lots of wood, cherries, molasses and ether in the nose. The body is full, rounded and real malty. I can’t wait to try this again in a few years!

2004 Bottle: 3/25/06 Dull cherry colored pour with a uniform, half inch head. Great lacing. The aroma is like smelling a cake or brownies baking in the oven. Sweet chocolate and fudge notes are laced with a fresh pressed cherry sweetness. Chocolate covered cherries. Velvetty smooth mouthfeel with soft carbonation. The body is complex with very little oxidation. Plums, raisins, oak, vanilla, marshmellow, chocolate, caramel...the list goes on. Highly drinkable with a great alcohol warming in the finish. Fantastic!
2001 Bottle: 12/21/06 Absolute bliss. Only the slightest hint of oxidation actually adds complexity. This is pure malt goodness from start to finish. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to crack this vintage, the time is now.
03 vintage. verny nice pours a syrupy reddish brown. thin lacy head. taste like the beer version of cognac. sweet mellow well blended date raisin almost prune like taste with the alcohol peaking through and letting you know its there. very good ncyankee (22) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 21, 2006
UPDATED: MAR 29, 2006 2004 vintage. This was my fourth different Barley wine, and by far the best and most balanced. Mellow, sweet caramel taste and aroma is dominant with very low carbonation. This almost tastes like a brandy or cognac. The brewer’s recommendation is to serve at room temperature and the flavor became even better as it warmed. This is a very drinkable barley wine and the alcohol taste is less dominant than in others I have tasted, at 11.4% it WILL bite you.
