3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2011 vintage from bottle: Aroma of raisins, wet cardboard, cherries, spice and slight leather. Appearance is garnet with a minimal head and almost no lacing. Taste is sweet, spicy, then hot unsurprising for a nearly 12% beer. Palate is thick and syrupy with a bit of burn as it goes down. A nice beer, I was surprised at the slight oxidation considering it’s only a year old but it tastes good and will warm you up.
Aus der Flasche getrunken (Kauf bei Getränkefeinkost Berlin). Version von 2015. Dunkles Rotbraun mit dünner Schaumdecke im Glas. In der Nase wuchtige Malzigkeit. Interessantes Prinkeln am Gaumen. Ziemlich straffer Körper. Alkohol könnte besser eingebunden sein. BeerViking (4908) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 6, 2017

Bottle. It poured a murky reddish brown with a off-white head. The aroma has notes of dark fruits, brown sugar, and caramel. It is a little bozzy. Very nice sipping ale. john44 (3111) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 11, 2017

Recently tried this on tap at the North Coast restaurant/pub in Ft. Bragg and was immediately impressed. It has a nice ale aroma and the flavor is fantastic: rich, complex, not too bitter. Everything seemed perfectly balanced. For an ale of this ABV that isn’t Bourbon-barrel aged, it is a true stand out. BeerRenter76 (1019) - Texas, USA - MAY 10, 2017
Originally rated on 2/12/09. 2008 vintage, most folks reccomend aging this one and i think they are probably right. Although pretty good it was a bit hot, because the alcohol; while not overbearing was noticeable. Flavor had huge sweet caramel malts, plenty of dark fruits in the aroma and flavor such as raisins, dates and some plum. Overall it was pretty nice but i would like to cellar one and try it again next year.
