3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2011 Vintage. Aroma is sweet, plenty of raisin and fig, and also ripe red fruit. Full bodied. Sweet with a heavy malt base, but surprisingly bright and not cloying. Vinous, cognac like, vanilla, berries, very smooth palate. Excellent barley wine now, and another year or two will mellow it out even further.
1st time trying this, interesting that it changes over time. A style I like and this seemed to fit in. A malt bomb, but has some elements from having the sweets overwhelm. Nose is tons of figs and some caramel. Appearance is brown with reddish highlights, pretty clear, pretty flat. Very sticky mouthfeel, with some sweet taste, some warming booze, the carbonation worked to keep the palate clean from the sweet, along with the booze, and a cleanness helped too. Taste was dark fruit, and alcohol burned slightly at the end. Very enjoyable though not my favorite malt bomb style. crispaire (249) - - DEC 12, 2017
i drank this as the current year (2017) vintage. maybe a couple years in the cellar would've improved it. all i got was cloying, sweet, dark stone fruit, especially of the prune variety. definitely one of my least favorite styles of old ale. luttonm (6863) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 10, 2017
Uber, Seattle. Creamy low head on dark mostly cloudy orange amber. Sip is creamy and full, cherry and red fruit in a creamy package. Some strawberries. Nice. Some sweet caramel, alcohol warmth burns behind. Cool and fairly sweet. Smooth. Nice. murzyn (549) - Sosnowiec, POLAND - DEC 8, 2017

W smaku mega gładkie. Są suszone owoce fig, moreli, winogron, lekki karmel, jagoda, trochę biszkopta. Pifko mega gładkie, alko niewyczuwalne jedynie miło łechce przełyk.

Dark ruby coloured beer.
Aroma is dried dates, apricot marmalade, raisins, figs and roasted malts.
Taste dried dates, toffee, raisins, tobacco, oak barrel, slight vanilla and a hint of dried dark berries.
Mouthfeel is rich and frothy, with a really nice medium-high bitterness. Some stickiness. High carbonation. No notes of pure alcohol detected at 12% ABV, impressive!
Overall: Very well made Old Ale. This would age beautifully, too high on carbonation at the moment. The taste notes die out a bit early but other than that, it's great! Definitely a beer I will buy every year.

Bottle from Systembolaget. We tried vintage 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. The rating is for vintage 2012 which was the best one. Dark amber with a small head. Sweetish with dried fruit, malt, caramel and some brandy. The body was full and the finish with warming alcohol. TychoJames (1483) - rebro, SWEDEN - OCT 26, 2017

Liknande i smak. Russin, trä, lite alkohol och rejäl maltkropp. Lätt söt munkänsla med avslutande torr bitterhet
12 ounce bottle. 2016 vintage; 11.8% ABV. Garnet colored with a small tight bubbly tan head. Rich, warming toasted malt flavor upfront. Notes of dried fruit, Madiera wine and caramel. Then the hops kick in. Intensely bittersweet and resiny and a wonderful balance to the big malty backbone. Quick amazing and certainly a classic Old Ale. Worth seeking out. oobawa (1804) - Tennessee, USA - SEP 22, 2017
2015 Bottle. A wicked beast, strong and heavy, loads of boozy malt sweetness on top of a powerfully bitter backbone. Caramel, honey, brandied plums, wood, and pine all crash together in a thick, foreboding ooze, leading to a finish dripping with resinous IBU vitriol and a hearty liquour heat. Still a tad abrasive at two years, but a worthy pint nonetheless.
