2013 bottle. Pours a murky brown with little head. Very carbonated at first and taste if raisins, dark fruit and hoppy bitterness to finish. Needs some time but after tasting prior aged vintages it will stand up.

I tried this after a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot barleywine. The difference is profound and not in a good way for the North Coast ale. This is brewed more according to British style with traditional Brit hops and they dont play a major role in aroma or flavor. Also, like many others have said, the alcohol is definitely evdient in this brew. This would be a last resort for me as a barleywine.

pours a cloudy reddish brown. no head no lacing. probably from the alcohol. taste is nothing like the other barley wines i have had. tastes are subtle and well balanced so far my favorite barley wine.

2003: This beer was given to me by a friend to try which I did after a year of cellaring. This was a great beer, it poured a beautful caramel color. There was a lot of spiciness in the aroma and the taste had a great warming effect. The only downside to this beer is that I dont have anymore.

12 oz bottle - 2007 - orange coppery color with a thin offwhite head....alcohol, malts and spice aroma...strong alcohol taste with malts and caramel...some hops in the finish...alcohol taste is a little too much for me ...

Also vintage 2001. Most excellent. Lots of fruit notes, definite hops presence though very refined. Strong alcohol mouthfeel at 11.4%. Clean finish.

what a barleywine!! This is a dyn-o-mite offering from yhe folks at North Coast. Big malty sweetness that was ousted by the huge hops of this one. Truly great beer. Alcohol is suprisingly understated in the taste...I am impressed.

Pours deep copper with a quick off white head. Nose is sweet and a little boozy. flavor explodes with barley and bread and is quite sweet with a long sticky finish.alcohol is present but well hidden. Great beer

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2008 2007 bottle. Pours a ruby colour with a tan head. Big on the nose with notes of dried fruits, caramel and milk chocolate. You can feel some of the alcohol. The taste is sweet with notes of dried fruits and a bit to much alcohol (giving the beer a medicinal taste). The finish is long, a bit roasted and with some bitterness. Good one - a bit to alcoholic though, but hopefully that will go away with some ageing.
