4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a dark copper with ruby highlights into a snifter. Two fingers of off white head that settles to a nice film and laces well. Raisin and plum aroma with some grape skin and a touch of sherry like booziness. Dark, ripe fruit flavor with some caramel sweetness. Bready mid palate with roasted malt and some booziness that adds spice and warms going down. Very little bitterness. Medium mouthfeel that is sweet but not cloying and somewhat sticky. Semi high carbonation. Very nice barleywine that hides its higher ABV well and has nice fruit and malt flavors. Good sipper on a cold day.

Bottle. It poured a murky reddish brown with a off-white head. The aroma has notes of dark fruits, brown sugar, and caramel. It is a little bozzy. Very nice sipping ale. john44 (3101) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 11, 2017
Bottle. Vintage 2015; Drank June 2017 - Clear red brown in colour. Small frothy off-white head. Very malty; lightly roasted malts, caramel, toffee, oaky, brown sugar. Dark fruits; raisins, plums. Some balancing hop bitterness. Bit spicy; peppery. Warming alcohol. Smooth, syrupy, viscous. Sweet roast malty and fruity throughout. Quite dry malty. Super sipper. Enjoyable Old Ale. Recently tried this on tap at the North Coast restaurant/pub in Ft. Bragg and was immediately impressed. It has a nice ale aroma and the flavor is fantastic: rich, complex, not too bitter. Everything seemed perfectly balanced. For an ale of this ABV that isn’t Bourbon-barrel aged, it is a true stand out. BeerRenter76 (1014) - Texas, USA - MAY 10, 2017
Originally rated on 2/12/09. 2008 vintage, most folks reccomend aging this one and i think they are probably right. Although pretty good it was a bit hot, because the alcohol; while not overbearing was noticeable. Flavor had huge sweet caramel malts, plenty of dark fruits in the aroma and flavor such as raisins, dates and some plum. Overall it was pretty nice but i would like to cellar one and try it again next year. Korcz (3372) - Warsaw, POLAND - MAY 3, 2017
Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Cukier i potworny, wódczano-rozpuszczalnikowy alkohol. Dramatycznie złe. jc1762 (1435) - Washington DC, USA - APR 29, 2017
Thanks Huhzubendah for sharing the 2011 bottle! Poured into a snifter showing translucent caramel brown with no head.
The nose is brandy forward.
The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Medium alcoholic spiciness, slightly cloying without much dimension. oRos (1675) - sacramento, California, USA - APR 23, 2017
Can believe im just rating this. I’ve had a vertical from 1999-2015. Pours amber dark color. Taste is a nice sweetness with lots of malt backbone.
