2005 Vintage. Excellent old style ale. Needs to mature to bring out all of its potential, however, it still is worth a fresh once-over. TampaBeer (257) - Tampa, Florida, USA - DEC 29, 2006
Nice deep brown color. Aroma is that of cognac. Lots of caramel in the flavor. Slightly syrupy, which detracts just a bit overall. thebaldwizard (1207) - Ohio, USA - MAR 18, 2007
"05 Vintage. Alcohol, and lots of fruits in the aroma (raisins and melon). Dark mohagany in color. Full palate. The taste is warm, malty, and bitter with a burning finish from the alcohol--definitely could use another year or two of age. FLnative80 (174) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAR 21, 2007
Bottle. 2006. 12 FL. OZ. Pours very brown with a hint of red and very little head that eventually disappears. No lacing either. Aromas of raisin and butterscotch. Fairly full-bodied with very little carbonation. Flavor is smooth and sweet with a long finish. Although you can tell its in there, this beer hides its 13.25% well. 12 oz bottle, 2007 vintage. Pours a reddish brown with a fizzy off-white head that quickly diminishes to a light dusting and then completely disappears.

The aroma is bitter grains and some DMS at first with sharp caramel alcohol, fruits and sugary sweetness coming out.
The flavor is sweet candy-like sugar with some sharp bitter alcohol in the finish. Some fruitiness comes out as it warms. The mouthfeel is medium to full with soft carbonation.
Overall, a mediocre barley wine. The alcohol and sweetness are pretty harsh and brash and it is not very complex. Maybe this is better after sitting a while...it is pretty hot.
Very strong barley wine. Lots and lots of candied fruit. One-dimensional (in this candied fruit kind of way). The syrupy fruit gets boring after a while. Dedollewaitor (16055) - Odense, DENMARK - JUL 15, 2007
This one really burns my cheek & throat. A lot of sweet - dark fruits - prune & raisin. Good amount of hops and warming & clearly visible alcohol. A true sipper - but again almost too powerfull. Medium body - sticky texture. Egon (478) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - JUL 18, 2007
Bottle of pre 2006. Dark redbrown with a small white head. Aroma of bread and wine, sweet. Raisin. Alcohol tends to dominate after a while, it is 11.4 % afterall. Maybe some smoke in it? cathcacr (647) - Oregon, USA - SEP 25, 2007
Color and transparency-wise, this fits right in there in that Arrogant Bastard glass. But no head after a cuppla minutes, little nose, alco-slick, syrupy, light burn on the finish. Could do better than this one. ’07 vintage. Maybe needs to age?
