Draugght at the brewpub. I’d say this is a dark lager and one of the best I’ve had. Lots of toast and charcoal on the nose. Pours black with persistent mocha head. Loads of grass, herbs, charcoal on the taste, Good body and finish, Excellent.

Draught at Matilda. Rich dark malt body, chocolate, slowly growing herbal spiciness, hints of licorice, dry finish with a sweet edge. One of their flagship beers, solid and flavorful dark brew.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2016 2016 re-rate: Tap at Gremlin. Big roasted malt aromas with some dark roasted coffee in the background. Medium body, but a little thinner than I remember it seems. Roasted, bitter finish that is borderline astringent. Seems to have gotten more one-dimensional that it was a few years back. On tap at Beer Bar North Island. Served in a half pint shaker. Coffee black with a minimal off-white head. Wonderful lacing the whole way down the glass. Corriander, nutmeg and coffee notes on the nose. Toasted malts, and charred vegetable comes out as well. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Complex finish with hints of sweetness along with the aforementioned bitterness. A very unique beer.

Half pint draft at Craft Heads. Black with light tan head. Aromas of roast, caramel, chocolate. Tastes of roasty notes, herbal, caramel, dark chocolate. medium body with a dry finish.

Draft - A bit herbal, coffee and some roast malts. Pitch black with a thin brown head. Dark malts and a vegetal herbal quality, coriander? Not sure, as I know i am looking for it and not sure what I am getting along with the roast. It is a vegetal bitterness though which I don’t thin overall make for a good beer.

Tap at Craft Beer Bar Yokohama. Dark brown, golden head. Aroma is roasty bit chocolate, coriander herbal, quite sweet. Taste is nice, herby, perfumey, nice roast, like a weird black ipa. Floral, and pretty nice.

MartinT (10037) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 25, 2013
My Bottom Line:
Coriander, caramel and licorice meld in this sweet and very spicy beast of a brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the brown-edged black.
-Mouthfeel is not too heavy considering the nature of specialty malt dominance.
-This is just about perfect for many types of curry.
-The sweetness is redolent of many types of candy.
-This is probably the first beer that makes me think of Traquair Jacobite. The resemblance of the aroma is uncanny.

On tap at Himalaya Table, Tokyo.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2013 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a large beige head. Coriander, fruit aroma. Flavour is very much spices, coriander.

KansaiBeerLvrs (5302) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 16, 2013
On tap at the North Island Brewpub in Sapporo (and I had a bottle later on at home). It poured a great dark black with a good inch of tan foam. The aroma had the coriander front and center and the flavor started with the spice and ended with a roast coffee flavor. Excellent! Probably one of the best stouts I’ve had in Japan and also a fairly innovative beer, kudos!

ChrisOs Marvellous Pre GBBF Mega Tasting. Dark brown beer, little tan head. Light dry palate. Light dark malts. Refreshing fruity coriander and citrus. Limey fruits on top. Dry finish. Interesting tasty beer.
