pale gold with large white head. nose of herbal hops. firm bitterness before slight malt sweetness, likely munich, before a lot of herbal and some citrus hops. the problem lies in an astringent finish with a grainy aftertaste. overall this beer has some nice facets, and is by far the best beer i’ve had from this brewery, but it has some components that could be improved DavoleBomb (1867) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 26, 2011
Poured into a pint glass. Big thanks to Romulux for this.
4.5 A: This is a beauty. Opaque bottle-conditioned dark orange brownish color. Two fingers of thick, off-white creamy/frothy hybrid head. Pretty good retention and a lot of lacing.
4.0 S: Smells great too! Grapefruit, grassiness, and a light herbalness. A light caramel, with a subtle yeasty breadiness.
3.0 T: Unfortunately, the quality from the nose never made it to the taste. This is solidly mediocre. Not much hop flavor and not much malt flavor either. What is left is a moderate bitterness and a strong yeasty breadiness. No complexity at all.
2.5 M: The mouthfeel is even more disappointing. Lighter medium body. Could use a touch more carbonation, but it’s hard to tell really since the existing carbonation lies lifeless on the tongue. Not creamy at all and not particularly smooth due to the yeastiness.
3.0 D: This one started out strong, but soon lost it’s way. Really pleasant nose, but the taste and mouthfeel are garbage. Oh well.

cask tap at beer engine. bitter, biting, grassy astringency remincicent of that stone cali session ipa or whatever. dry. sharp earthygrapefruit and grass. rustic, dry bread, with a touch of vegetal rot. could use some balance. low carbonation. okay. BigBeer45 (1594) - Michigan, USA - APR 17, 2011
this ale has a hazy (from sediment) burnt orange and red colored pour, the sediment in the bottle was pretty loose and created quite a haze when the bottle was poured, the pour gave a one to two finger high off-white head that lowers to a thick cover, I do not see a lot of carbonation in the glass, there were just a few bubbles flowing their way up in the center of the glass but this beer does not feel under carbonated, this beer left spots and fingers of lacing on the sides of the glass, there was a layer of loose sediment in the bottle,
the aromas were citrus, grassy hops with a hint of earth? Also, the hops have little floral notes,
there was toasted malt with orange and peach fruit,
the flavors consisted of toasted malt with a touch of caramel, grassy hops with a little pine,
this beer has a little hop bitterness that was gentle on the palate, this beer was a little dry at the finish,
I got the impression this beer was dry hopped a bit,
the mouth feel was a little less than medium,
hop aroma is not real big on the nose or mouth, like the label states, this drink is a session IPA, an easy session IPA.
