DrnkMcDermott's rating

   AROMA 3/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 3/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 7/20

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2003 Bottled. This was not on tap at the brewpub, and the beers I did have there were okay, so I hope it’s just a problem with their bottling line because this had a big butterscotch aroma when we popped the cap. Way too bitter for the style, too. And yes, the label says both "Kölsch" and "Pilsner," while the description (on-line and on their beer list) calls it an "ale."

The appearance is right. There is some malt character and even a little hops, but this is a small step above an industrial lager. If it were $12/ case, there would be some merit to it. As it, it barely seems like a craft beer. Drinkable enough I guess, and this is a hard style to get right.

Bottle from brewpub: Transparent pale golden with a thin wispy white head. Aroma of slightly sour, pale grainy malt. Body is thin and watery and hardly has any flavor whatsoever, apart from a faint tartness. WTF is wrong with this place?

Bottle thanks to Skyview. Poured bright golden, almost clear save for some very fine sediment.. about as much head on there as apple juice (about zero). Aroma was sickly sweet with honeycomb, corn, and fructose-infused caramels.. no hop presence in the nose.. what the hell is this? Flavor found bunches of honey and corn sweetness at the base with very mild grassy and herbal bitterness.. left some ugly vegetal and cardboard notes at the finish.. not good. Light-bodied and scathing on the palate.. the "prickly" comes through in higher carbonation that pops on all the taste buds, spreading out the nasty flavors... dries out the back of the mouth with the finish. Gross.

Oh.. and this was typed before reading very similar remarks below.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2007 Bottle. Pours a medium gold with a thin whoet head. Aroma is interesting. Malts, corn, nuts, grassy. Flavor is bitter corn, malts, citrus and light wheats. Pretty average.

Skyview (6076) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - MAY 27, 2007
On tap at both Chetek and Eau Claire brewpub locations, but brewed only at the Eau Clarie locale. Pours a light orange golden yellow brew with a thick white head that diminishes quick and leaves a spotty lacing. Aroma of corn malt, some sour apples, and some powdered sugar. Taste is highly carbonated, light bodied, some citrus peel with a dry orange finish. NIce orange/hops bitterness.

On tap at both Chetek and Eau Claire brewpub locations. Pale yellow ith loats of foamy white head. Orange hops with some malt on the nose. Slightly malty body with orange hops on the finish.

JohnnyOS (646) - Golden, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 23, 2006
Pours a yellowish orange with white head. Light aroma of corn and sugary sweetness. Some floral hops in the flavor and a bit of sweetness but that’s about it.

ElBorracho (472) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 27, 2005
Bottle. Pours a medium yellow/orange with a large overly carbonated head. Faint aroma of corn and sweetness. A little sour, a little sweet and no hops. The head lasts and lasts and lasts...

MIBRomeo (2570) - Wisconsin, USA - NOV 26, 2005
light yellow nice white head. Very light aroma some odd sweetness and yeast. Good coated and carbonated beer. Odd flavor some perfume hop and touches of bitterness... not very good.
