Nice and smooth for a lager, good smoky flavor, not too lagerish/bitter and honey finish.

16 ounce draft at Row 34 poured into a standard pint glass. Pours black with ruby brown hues and a light tan head, maybe half a finger. Decent lacing. Aromas of sweet and bitter malt, caramel, cocoa, light wheat. Tasting notes of cocoa, coffee, roast, dark chocolate. Medium body with a dry finish, medium carbonation. Pretty interesting and tasty, very enjoyable. Bulk_Carrier (6064) - Vermont, USA - JAN 21, 2017
Poured into a pilsner glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a good pace. Some rings of clingy lace.
The aroma starts off with a sweet dark fruity blissful malty milk chocolatey goodness. Light dark chocolate, moderate bready sweetness. Sly rugged roastiness.
The flavor yields to the sweet bready side first but then opens up into a great balance. Rich bready and roasty aftertaste flowing into the finish very nicely.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a great sessionability about it. Smooth bready lager lingering yet rugged but low key enough to flow nicely over my tongue.
Overall, as a black lager this was exceptionally well done to have as much going on as it did. nuplastikk (6511) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 1, 2013
22oz bomber shared at a DC tasting. Brown black, very light delicate body. Takes a style that is made pretty sub-standardly all too often, and really perfects it. Great clean example of the style. thornecb (6152) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 9, 2011
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2011 Pours black into a Sam glass. Off-white head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Sweet chocolate and caramel aromas. Thin with chocolate and mild smoke front to back.

Poured from a 12oz can into a dimple mug. Born on "10/16/2015"
Aroma - Cocoa, roasted malt, dark bread. Not particularly potent.
Appearance - Three finger creamy mocha head. Un-pierceable black color.
Taste - Semi-sweet cocoa flavors mesh with the roasted, bitter roasted malts. Sweet flavors are reminiscent of iced coffee with milk. Lingering roasted and cocoa flavors.
Palate - Light bodied but plenty creamy. Semi-dry.
Overall - Fell in love with tmavy in Prague, with its pilsner-like body but porter-like richness. Happy to see Notch pay omage to the style and do an admirable job at it. auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - DEC 28, 2011
On tap at Meadhall - Cambridge, MA. Clean roast aroma. Light coffee-like body, edging seltzer-Like and minerally, with a bit of mush to the middle. Good dark flavors, but not as snappy as it could be. SrSilliGose (3324) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - JAN 5, 2012
bottle. pours a deep brown with a sizeable frothy tan brown head. aroma of silky dough, hazelnuts, cold roasty coffee, and a touch of licorice. taste is rustic floury dough, nuts, and bitter roast. dry. sessionable. tasty. to style, and maybe 85th percentile of the "black beers" i had in the czech republic, but i haven’t had many. like quite a bit. as far beers on ratebeer under the schwarzbier category, i’ll give the nod to the heater allen schwarzbier i had a couple weeks ago. this wasn’t too bad though. personally, would like a touch more bright roast, and a touch less dough. but who knows. radagast83 (8624) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - NOV 25, 2012
Bottle provided by jslot38. Thanks! Well I noted it had an awful aroma - but i don’t remember why I noted that or anything else, ah well. Anyway, poured a ruby-cola color with a small off-white head. Aroma was sweet roasted, chocolates, and toffee. Flavor was likewise.
