Big thanks to markwise for scoring me this barleywine brew while we were in Denver. The 33cl bottle pours with a hazy amber body with copper hues that supports a lasting tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet honey and brown sugar covered prunes, plums and apples followed by a slight mineral yeastiness. The taste is similar with esteriness mixed with almost honey sweetness to malts sweetness. To midway it picks up pine to spicy hoppiness. rarbring (2294) - Linköping, SWEDEN - NOV 11, 2012
Aroma: The smell is, as should be, vinous - Port, Madeira. Sweet dried fruits, figs, dates. Fermentation and yeast.Abrakarl (436) - SWEDEN - NOV 10, 2012
Appearance: The beer is brown, red hints, with a firm beige head leaving lots of lacing.
Taste: Abundantly sweet, dried apricots, spices, cloves. A good bitter balance, bitter almond.
Palate: Rather good carbonation, small fresh bubbles, yet a firm feeling.
Overall: I have difficulties rating barley wines, barely beers as they are. But to me this was rather accessible.
Note: Bottle 250 ml. (Vintage 2010) Reviewed 2011-07-16.
UPDATED: DEC 27, 2013 Not much head, but dark and nice. Difficult to say what is in the damp aroma, maybe some apple, but its not pleasant. Licorice in taste. Maybe it will be better storef away for a year. This one 10/11-2012. 2011 version.
Tasted the 2012 version (25/12-2013) and I have to say it’s a pleasant beer. Don’t know if I evolved or if this one is better. Would rate this around 3,5. Garlic_of_Doom (645) - SWEDEN - NOV 10, 2012

Bottle from Systembolaget, 2011 vintage.
Pours a dark amber with a off white lacing.
Pear, caramel malt, figs, sweet and floral hoppy notes to the nose.
Taste is dominated by caramel malt but there’s apricot, figs and some raisin as well. A notable warming alcohol sensation at the end which is a bit dry as well as bitter. Medium body, low carbonation.
A bit thinner than expected but still a good barley wine.
2010 vintage has caramel malt and bitter orange marmalade and sweetness all over the nose. Taste is sweet malty with raisins and plums and also has some dry chocolate and wood to it. Heating sensation at the end. Thicker feel than the 2011 vintage. Melker (261) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 9, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2013 2011 vintage. Amber colour, small off-white head which disappears quickly.
Lovely aroma of caramel, butterscotch, dark fruits, cinnamon and bread. Complex taste. Sweet malts, maybe a bit smokey. Bitter aftertaste...
2010 vintage (2013 march): Sweeter, more fruits, less caramel. Less bitterness than 2011. Aroma reminds me a lot of port wine. Enjoyable but I prefer 2011.

Clear dark amber colour, medium size off-white head with decent retention. Aroma of pear brandy and biscuits. Malty and sweet with a little sting from the alcohol and a slight bitterness in the finish. Medium to full mouthfeel. Medium to low carbonation. Could be a little heftier, but this is a really good English style barley wine peral2 (579) - SWEDEN - NOV 7, 2012
Hygglig. Lite väl mycket smak av julöl för min del . Humlen överröstas av karamell och vin

Bottle from SB, 2012 edition. Pours medium brown with a light reddish hue, clear, with a light tan medium head. Looks lovely. Aroma is quite fresh with grass and hay, then caramel malt, dough, nuts, banana, and just a hint of toffee. Taste is perfectly balanced between a nice bitter and a very pleasant sweet that last through the start and all the way to the - slightly too abrupt - finish. Body is medium to full, creamy AND slightly sticky, with low carbonation. As far as I can remember, the 2011 was better, but this is still a very nice barley wine. brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - SEP 26, 2012
Pours amber in color with an off-white head. Nose is sweet toffee and dark fruits with a nice bit of brown sugar and caramel. A hint of alcohol as well as a light citrus peel hop aroma. The flavor is on the sweet side with very little hop character or bitterness. Plenty of malty sweetness. Very nice brown sugar, caramel, and toffee with a bit of dark stone fruit mixed in. bergstaden (2990) - Røros, NORWAY - SEP 20, 2012
Amber with an off white head - nice malty aroma with some caramel and dark fruits - nice good malt body with caramel and dark fruits with some alcohol in the back - Lingering malt and some nice alcohol heat in the finish - This was real good
