Note: Unaged, nameless version pre-released in september 2007. Officially released as Bötet Barley Wine in september 2008.

Small cream head, gone in secs over foxy-red beer. Grapey hops, light caramel, cake, resin, bit soapy, with a hint at cinnamon. Sweet, syrupy, caramely with bitterish-resiny touch in the finish, like grapefruitjuice, reduced with brown sugar. Viscous, oily on the lips, and a hint at astringency. Flavours coming together, however. Decent, very USA hopped-like Barley Wine. It seems to miss some body, but nips away nicely.

Medium offwhite head. Faintly hazy amber body. Malty caramelly roasty hoppy aroma with alcoholic sherry notes. Dry-sweet malty caramelly papery sherry taste with alcohol and apple notes. Light body. Hottish mouthfeel. Dry-sweet peppery resiny sherry and paper aftertaste. Very, very nice. (0.25l bottle, Systembolaget, Stockholm.)

Bottle, 25cl - Semi hazy red beer with a large creamy head. Aroma is malty with notes of dried fruits, raisins, vinous fruit and hops. Flavor is malty with notes of vinous fruit, dried figs and nuts. Slightly alcoholic ending but loads of potential here!

A good swedish version of an english BW! The taste is not overly malty or hoppy, but has a lot of soil, plums, portwine and raisins in it. This one was fresh, and not the best BW I’ve had, but I have great hopes of it developing in a positive direction when cellared.

Pours a slightly hazy copper with a quickly diminishing head. Very rich aroma of syrup, honey, dark sugars, sweet pineapple, toffee and figs. The taste is not at alls as sweet as I expected from the aroma, but still sweet of course. This is more elegant than heavy, lacking some punch. Let’s see how it develops in the cellar.
